Dubai Knowledge Village And Business Partner SHL Speak At Training And Development Show 2012

Topics covered included: HR analytics, talent management and employee retention

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, December 6th 2012 [ME NewsWire]

Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV) and its business partner, SHL, both took to the stage on the second day of the Training and Development Show 2012 which took place on 4th and 5th December 2012 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Managing Director, TECOM Investments – Education Cluster, spoke on, “How to position the HR function as a competitive business asset” in the HR Training and Talent Management seminar.  His presentation was followed in the afternoon by David Edwards, Head of Professional Services Middle East, SHL, presenting on the topic, “How to identify emerging talent and accelerate development through objective assessment” in the Social & Informal Learning session of the conference.

DKV was the knowledge partner for the event which takes place yearly, and was also exhibiting.  Speaking about DKV’s participation, Dr. Kazim, said: “The three themes of the seminars this year were not just topical, but extremely relevant to the UAE market.  Digital learning, talent management and workforce nationalisation are issues that our business partners at DKV tackle on a daily basis.  It is important to support and attend these events so that we can share our experiences and continue to develop the HR sector in the UAE.”

Dr. Kazim’s presentation examined the importance of HR analytics in identifying and developing talent within organisations.  This is particularly important in light of recent National Day calls for increased Emiratisation and more support for the move to a knowledge-based economy which is ongoing.  The UAE is currently ranked 21 in the “Leaders of Today” poll, however, it is ranked 12 in the “Leaders of Tomorrow” poll, according to a recent study done by SHL.  Dr. Kazim’s presentation showed that this move up the rankings is the result of rising education standards in the UAE and the introduction of economic and education zones such as DKV and DIAC attracting multi tiered institutions to cater the regional needs of industrial and economic sectors.

Given the progress being made in the education and employment sectors, the UAE has a growing number of future leaders who need to be nurtured.  As a result, events such as the Training and Development Show are critical to ensure issues such as talent development, HR analytics and employee engagement are at the top of the HR sector’s agenda.

“Across the Middle East, there is a relatively stable supply of leaders for today. The UAE has an exceptionally strong pool of potential leaders for tomorrow and jumps ahead of countries in Europe and emerging markets according to the SHL Global Talent Report. However, companies need to invest in learning and development today to unlock this potential and cultivate future leaders,” said Mohamed Farid, Managing Director – Middle East, at SHL. “Rising education standards and a culture of entrepreneurialism are some of the many environmental factors that are driving these economies up the rankings for future leadership potential. These nations have a huge growth opportunity if they can identify, nurture and develop this potential.”

The Training and Development Show concludes DKV’s participation in conferences and exhibitions for 2012.  The free zone will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2013.
