Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Monday, April 7th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Open
Geospatial Consortium (OGC) honored the Ministry of Interior (MoI) who
is representing the UAE for the Middle East and North Africa region
(MENA), in both planning and technical committees of open geospatial
specifications, through the efforts made by the Geographic Information
System Security Center (GIS) in Abu Dhabi police. The recognition comes
as an appreciation of the outstanding role it played in heading the
workgroup specialized in police, public safety and internal security;
enriching it’s work related to specifications of geographical
information structure for law enforcement purposes; generalizing
geospatial security applications and software; and unifying the
technical description standards of security mapping, in conjunction with
the 20th anniversary of the Consortium’s establishment.
Major
General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations of
Abu Dhabi Police, received the commemorative shield on behalf of the
Ministry of Interior on this occasion from HE Eng. Mark Reichardt,
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Open Geospatial Consortium,
during the periodic quarterly meeting of the planning and technical
committees in the Washington D.C.
Director General of Central
Operations also received the shield of excellence in leading
institutional police geographical systems from the American Lockheed
Martin Company who is the main host of the current quarterly periodic
meeting and the co-head of the workgroup. Receiving the shield mark the
appreciation for the productive role of the Ministry of Interior in the
field of security and public safety as per the technical standards set
by the consortium. It also refers to the fruitful efforts regarding
examining technical tests and enriching the scientific scene of the
consortium in the field of security and police departments’
collaboration.
It is worth mentioning that the UAE has hosted the
meetings of the technical and planning committees in Abu Dhabi for the
first time in the MENA region in March last year. It was heavily
attended by scientists, engineers, technician and representatives of
public and private sectors from various parts of the world, with a
distinguished participation in the inauguration of the conference by the
representatives of the geospatial data initiative of Abu Dhabi, in
coordination and active partnership with the Abu Dhabi Systems and
Information Centre.
The participating organizations and
foundations that are members of the consortium hailed the level of
support and development in the UAE in the field of geographical
information systems. Hosting the event was hailed as well in
appreciation of the efforts made by the GIS Center of the Ministry of
Interior for the developing and leading the consortium’s workgroup of
international police, public safety and internal security.
