Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Award for Security Research Launched

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Secretariat General launched the competition of Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz award for security research 2015 for GCC countries. The key topic of the award is “Cyber-crime in Gulf Society and the means to face it.” The deadline to receive participating researches from GCC countries is December, 31.

Colonel Dr. Ali Salem Al Tunaiji, member of the award board and representative of the UAE Ministry of Interior’s entry for the award, said: “The Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz award for security research represents one of the references for security decisions and a foundation for the creation of a security vision within the GCC countries that believes in the importance of scientific research in resolving securities challenges faced by these countries.”

“This award is an important mean to develop education curricula and training programs at security colleges, academies and institutes. It provide GCC nationals with an opportunity to participate in the drafting of security and police policies in their respective countries, as they take part in these researches and studies. The police leadership is very interested in scientific research and studies, in order to improve and push forward police thought and security work based on scientific basis,” Colonel Al Tunaiji added.

Colonel Al Tunaiji extended his gratitude and appreciation to the GCC ministers of interior for their unlimited support to specialized scientific research and studies, which is demonstrated in their attention and support to this award. He said: “Naming this award after late Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, may God have mercy upon his soul, is an acknowledgment for this initiative, as it mirrors late Prince Nayef’s lifetime  of contributions and efforts in supporting security and mutual security work regionally and internationally.”

He added: “The success of security policies relies mainly upon implementing social partnership approaches properly; an approach adopted by the UAE Ministry of Interior across all its work aspects. I would like to call on each and everyone to make further efforts to positively impact public behavior. This can only be achieved through partnerships and adopting various means to achieve the desired goals.”

Colonel Dr. Al Tunaiji explained: “The award, which was established upon the directives of Their Highnesses and Excellencies, the Interior Ministers of the GCC countries, aims to encourage researchers and experts from GCC nationals to carry out valuable researches and studies in security fields and to conduct researches that support security cooperation and integration, in order to maintain the security and stability of the GCC countries. It also encourages channeling of research efforts to address mutual security issues, and develop security concepts and trends, based on the comprehensive security approach.”

“The awards covers 6 reference topics: cyber-crime “definition, causes and impacts”; cyber-crimes reality and the means to face them in the GCC countries; the best regional and international practices for cyber-crime fighting; executive programs to prevent from and curb cyber-crimes and means of evaluation; impact of social networking sites on the GCC countries’ societies; and providing clear and enforceable strategies and plans to fight cyber-crime,” he added.

In conclusion, Colonel Al Tunaiji explained the terms and conditions to participate in the award: “Applicants must be legal GCC citizens (natural persons – people- and juridical persons – persona ficta). Applicants must be employees at scientific and research institutions at national universities, police colleges and research centers. The award board will hold an introductory meeting on Thursday, April 10th, at 9:00 am, at the Sharjah Police School, to provide further information about the award.
