Al Ain Traffic Section Raises Awareness on the Dangers of Driving with Fatigue and Drowsiness

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, July 17th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Al Ain Traffic Section affiliated with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, organized awareness programs in the city of Al Ain about the hazards of traffic accidents caused by fatigue and drowsiness. The Al Ain Traffic Section urged drivers to abide by traffic laws and regulations as a part of the “For your safety, Adhere to Traffic Rules” campaign that prioritizes making the roads safer. The three-month-long campaign organized by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) aims to enhance traffic education among drivers and will be held at various traffic departments across the UAE.
Major Matar Mohamed Al Muhairi, Acting Chief of Al Ain Traffic Section, stressed the importance of communicating with the public and of reminding them to adhere to the traffic laws and to avoid driving in a state of fatigue or drowsiness. “This is a part of our efforts to make the road safer and reduce traffic accidents, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, as some drivers tend to speed particularly before Iftar,” Major Al Muhairi said.
For his part, First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Acting Public Relations Branch Manager at the Al Ain Traffic Section, praised the efforts of the volunteers who have participated in the field of traffic awareness, pointing out that such awareness campaigns result in increased traffic awareness and education for drivers.
First Lieutenant Al Shamesi said,“The program includes educating motorists about not randomly parking their vehicles near mosques, which will cause traffic jams and impede traffic flow during the Taraweeh prayers. It also urges drivers to consider the rights of others who share the road, to not block parking entrances or exits, nor hinder other vehicles by parking directly behind them.”
