ADP Celebrates International Day of Charity

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, September 5th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police, represented by the Community Police Department, organized an event to mark the International Day of Charity, which is observed each year on September 5th. The event, organized in collaboration with the Peripheral Regions Police Directorate – Khalifa Police Station- was held at ProVita International Medical Center at Madinat Khalifa.

Major Mohammed Hassan Al Hosani, Operation Affairs Director at the Madinat Khalifa Police Station, stressed the Abu Dhabi Police’s keenness to enhance communication with all segments of society, and to contribute to humanitarian and charity work. “This initiative comes in response to the directives of the police leadership, which urges its staff members to provide aid and assistance to the various segments of society, especially people with special needs. It also comes in line with the ‘Plants of Hope’ initiative as an embodiment of the police’s social responsibility towards community members in general and its commitment to its ethical responsibility towards people with disabilities, the elderly and the youth,” noted Major Al Hosani.

For his part, Captain Salem Suhail Al Ameri, Chief of the Community Police Section at the Peripheral Regions Directorate, underlined that the event embodies the Community Police’s objectives to communicate, interact, and integrate with various segments of society. “The program featured an array of fun-filled recreational events, aimed at integrating children with chronic health conditions and incurable diseases. It is also designed to acquaint the ProVita International Medical Center with the various services provided by the Abu Dhabi Police and the efforts exerted by the Community Police to strengthen partnership with different sectors and social institutions,” indicated Captain Al Ameri.

Adding further, Captain Al Ameri said that the Abu Dhabi Police delegation visited sick children and elderly in their rooms to chat with them, check on their health condition, provide them with moral support and bring joy to their heart. Moreover, they distributed commemorative gifts to them.

The patients' families commended the visit, which positively affects them. In this regard, Michael Davies, CEO of the ProVita International Medical Center, underscored the importance of the event in providing moral support for both the patients and their families, thus helping them to cope with their difficult health conditions.

It is worth mentioning that the ProVita International Medical Center in Madinat Khalifa is the first of its kind in the Middle East that provides long-term care for critically ill patients; who rely on respirators in non-hospital environment.

According to the United Nations, the International Day of Charity was established with the objective of sensitizing and mobilizing people, including non-governmental organizations and stakeholders around the world to help others through volunteerism and philanthropic activities. It also intends to increase public support for charity.

Marking this global event contributes to encourage charity, supplement public services in health care, education, housing and child protection. It also promotes the advancement of culture, science and sports, as well the protection of cultural heritage, and spreads the message of humanity.
