EAWS Launches 'Best Shop to Sell Animals Award’

The Emirates Animal Welfare Society (EAWS) organized a ceremony today, Saturday, to announce the first edition of the ‘Best Shop to Sell Animals Award’ for 2014-2015. The ceremony took place during the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2014 (ADIHEX), and was attended by media and members of the public.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Emirates Animal Welfare Society (EAWS), noted that shops wishing to register for the award can apply from 1-7  of March 2015. “The award categories include the ‘Best Shop to Sell Animals’ (at the countrywide level); the ‘Best Shop to Sell Animals’ (at the Emirate’s level); the ‘Best Shop to Sell Fish’, the ‘Best Shop to Sell Birds’; and the ‘Best Shop to Sell Pets’,” indicated Major General Al Nuaimi.

Adding further, Major General Al Nuaimi noted that as part of its objectives, EAWS aims to spread awareness about animal welfare issues and the importance of preserving animal life. Furthermore, he urged the public to engage in volunteer work related to animal protection and to contribute to efforts aimed at encouraging positive behavior in treating animals. The Chairman of the Emirates Animal Welfare Society (EAWS) also stressed the importance of planning mobile medical convoys to provide treatment for animals, in coordination with specialized animal associations and health centers across the UAE.

Major General Al Nuaimi also pointed out that EAWS carries out extensive and continuous research studies about the optimal ways for animal care and nutrition, after prior approval from the competent authorities in the emirate, and approval of the Ministry of Environment and Water. “EAWS also strives to promote international agreements with the competent regional and local authorities, and to represent the UAE in international forums and conferences on animal welfare after obtaining approval from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry Foreign Affairs,” said Major General Al Nuaimi. He also emphasized the importance of animals and their role in maintaining the ecological balance, which ensures continuity of life on the planet.

The award’s launch event was attended by EAWS members of the Board of Directors, namely; Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri; Noha Rashid Al Hinai; AbdulRahman Al Mansouri; Saif Al Shamesi; and Marwan Mohammed Al Ka’bi.
