ADP Evaluates the Periodic “PAP Test” System

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, October 17th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Pan Medical Conference (Women's Health), organized by the Medical Services Department, representing Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, continued its activities for the second day. A number of medical topics and chronic diseases that pose a threat to women's health were tackled as part of the three sub-specialty tracks running simultaneously at the Rosewood Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
The first session was moderated by Dr. Mohammed Al Raisi; Dr. Hanan Jeghami, Specialist Internal Medicine at Abu Dhabi Police  Medical Services Department and Dr. Bashir Salih from Corniche Hospital. During this plenary session, three papers were discussed. The first papers, submitted by Dr. Kornelia Kotseva from the United Kingdom, tackled global prevention efforts against cardiovascular disease. Professor Stephen Robson from the United Kingdom presented a paper on hypertensive disorders in pregnancy; while the third paper, submitted by Dr. Abdul Razzak Alkaddour from the UAE, addressed heart disease in women.
The second working session was moderated by Lt. Colonel Dr. Najla Asaad Taher, Dermatology Specialist, Head of Dermatology at the Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services Department; Chair of the Conference; Professor Stephen Morris; and Professor Moraya Al Qahtani. During this plenary session, three papers were discussed. The first paper was submitted Dr. Sabine Zenker from of Germany, and tackled skin disease; the optimal stem cell therapy for skin rejuvenation; skin rejuvenation with Botox and fillers; as well as various cosmetic surgery mishaps, in the event that both the patient and the doctor were unfit for such surgeries. The second paper examined the different problems affecting women's beauty and appearance, their causes and modern treatment methods that have revolutionized the medical industry, including modern laser devices.
During the third session, moderated by Dr. Ammar Al Dhamin; Dr. Sabine Zenker and Dr. Jose Sanchez, the attendees discussed body contouring post pregnancy using sophisticated equipment; breast lift augmentation;  eyelid plastic surgery (blepharoplasty)  after menopause. Moreover, panel discussions were held with selected doctors to discuss the latest medical findings in the laser technology. Specialized workshops were also held to shed light on modern hardware such as the ‘Fraxel device’ treatment, which offers a ‘fractional’ approach to laser skin resurfacing. It is a novel way to treat wrinkled or sun-damaged skin as well as acne scarring, skin discoloration, and more.  It also provides skin rejuvenation, restores skins texture and treats post-pregnancy stretch marks.
Lt. Colonel Dr. Najla Asaad Taher, Chair of the Conference, stressed that the conference features comprehensive and diverse medical disciplines, and is not merely dedicated for women. “The conference has tackled several cardiovascular diseases which currently represent  30% of all global deaths, and may rise to 50% after menopause, given the serious impact of these diseases on women’s health,” explained Lt. Colonel Dr. Taher; noting that around 1,000 women die from pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications globally every day, according  to the World Health Organization (WHO).
She also stressed that this conference will change the current understanding and proves that cardiovascular diseases are not just a man’s problem, as they also affect women.
For her part Dr. Reem Al Muhairi, Family Medicine Specialist at the Medical Services Department of Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the significant importance of the conference, which highlights the various cardiovascular diseases (CDVs) especially among women, and provides statistics related to the prevalence of such diseases within and outside the UAE. Dr. Al Muhairi also noted that the conference tackled obesity, which has become a major endemic health problem in the Arab Gulf countries, according to recent statistics. Additionally, the conference tackled prevention methods, modern pharmacological therapies, surgical interventions, and Post-Bariatric Surgery Care Guidelines, which may yield major health problems and possible complications. The conference also focused on common renal problems and diseases and shed light on oral health and pregnancy, in addition to the most recent ‘lipidiology’ treatment methods for Dyslipidemia (high blood fats "cholesterol").
Dr. Rasheeda Abass, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services Department, shed the light on the alarming rate of infertility on the rise in the Arab Gulf countries, noting that late marriage is a major contributing factor, in addition to focusing more on schooling, and the growing stress of the need to give birth to healthy babies.
Dr. Abbass also explained that treatment mechanisms include early awareness regarding the most common types of medical disorders and diseases related to reproductive health. "The UAE has provided specialized and advanced fertility test clinics to identify the main reasons of infertility problems, and provided the latest medications and treatments," she stressed.
Dr. Rasheeda Abass also indicated that the UAE has dedicated significant attention to gynecological disorders, particularly cervical cancer, which can be prevented with vaccines for pre-sexually active women, and early screening techniques of determining the ‘Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)’. “The Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police has been implementing a mandatory Pap and HPV tests every three years for the MoI female staff members since 2010. As many as 1500 female staff members have already been screened so far,” she noted.
Adding further, she said, "As per the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), confirmed cases of cervical cancer are referred to competent medical bodies. Moreover, the Medical Service Department has provided HPV immunization program for all MoI female staff members aged up to the age 26 years.”
For his part, Dr. Bashir Salih, Consultant Obstetric Medicine Physician, Chief of Obstetric Medicine, explained that diseases associated with pregnancy are constantly on the rise, particularly gestational diabetes. He also noted that this is an anticipated natural result of the significant prevalence of diabetes within society. “Confronting this serious disease requires concerted efforts from all society segments, not only from healthcare entities. Civil society organizations, media, and women associations must take part in this valuable endeavor, because women’s health accounts for the health of society as they are nurturers of the future generations,” he concluded.
