Johnson Controls Brings Energy Efficient York Chillers to Highly-Anticipated Mall of Egypt

York chiller solutions to help 160,000 square-meter mall earn LEED® Gold certification

CAIRO - Sunday, November 9th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company, will supply high-efficiency York centrifugal chiller solutions to the Mall of Egypt, a retail and entertainment complex currently under construction in Cairo, Egypt. The York chiller technology will help the 160,000 square-meter mall reduce energy and operational costs and provide a comfortable environment for visitors and tenants when the mall opens in 2015.

The two-level facility will feature a range of international fashion and lifestyle retail brands in 400 retail outlets, an indoor ski and snow park, a 17-screen cinema, a family entertainment center, and more than 50 food and beverage outlets. The mall is designed to achieve LEED® Gold certification, an internationally-recognized energy efficiency rating system.

“The Mall of Egypt will set the regional standard for bringing energy efficiency to such a glamorous destination,” said Claude Allain, vice president and general manager, Middle East for Johnson Controls. “We are proud to help the mall reduce its operating costs and carbon footprint for generations to come.”

“Sixty-eight percent of a building’s energy consumption typically comes from the heating and cooling systems. The mall’s choice to use YORK® chillers will exceed industry standards for operations, increase system efficiency by 15 percent, and benefit from environmentally-friendly refrigerant,” said Mohamed Mekawy, sales manager, Johnson Controls.

The YORK® chillers are manufactured in San Antonio, Texas.
