Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, December 17th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The European Tour Performance Institute at Jumeirah Golf Estates has announced an exciting new programme which will introduce Emirati children to the game of golf. This grass roots initiative has been carefully designed to promote golf as a sport within the Emirati community to grow the game which is already hugely popular with the expat community living in the UAE.

The programme will be titled “Diamonds in the Rough” and will take a number of complete beginners who will undergo regular tuition with the team at ETPI to develop their skills as golfers. It is hoped that through underage participation in golf, the foundation will be set to make the way for a generation of top Emirati golfers of the future.

Starting in mid-January, the programme will focus not only on teaching golf skills but also fitness and mobility which are all fundamental in developing top golfers.

Yousuf Kazim, General Manager of Jumeirah Golf Estates said: “It has long been our aim to contribute to developing top golfers, especially those native to the UAE. It would be a dream for us to one day see an Emirati national taking part in the DP World Tour Championship as a member of the European Tour.

Wayne Johnson, Director of Instruction and his team at ETPI are consummate professionals providing the very best in tuition. I am sure the children undertaking this programme will really enjoy the experience and with their new found skills encourage their family, friends and even parents to take up this great game..” concluded Kazim.

The team at ETPI will be assisted in the running of the scheme by Ismail Sharif, one of the UAE’s top golfers and seven times UAE Amateur Golf Champion. He also has represented the UAE at international level on several occasions. Ismail has a long association with the development of golf in the UAE both at junior and adult levels.

Ismail commented “ETPI is widely recognised by the world’s best players as one of the finest of its type. The facilities being made available means there is no excuse as to why we should not be able to develop some fine Emirati golfers and grow the game locally. We hope this programme is a catalyst for other clubs in the UAE to develop similar initiatives so that this becomes a nationwide drive.”
