Analogix Ships Over One Billion DisplayPort Devices

Milestone Reflects Company’s Leadership in Mobile Display Connectivity

SANTA CLARA, Calif - Tuesday, December 16th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Analogix Semiconductor, Inc., today announced that it has now shipped more than 1 billion DisplayPort™ devices into the consumer electronics market. This important milestone underscores Analogix’s leadership in DisplayPort technology, which enables smartphones, tablets and notebooks to connect with the latest high-resolution TVs, projectors and monitors.

Analogix supplies a wide variety of DisplayPort digital media chips and IP cores, as well as full custom application-specific chips, to many of the world’s leading electronics brands, which use them primarily in internal display controllers and external connector ports.

Kewei Yang, Analogix Semiconductor’s chairman and CEO said the industry’s growing acceptance of DisplayPort technology has been a major reason for the company’s growth. “The adoption of DisplayPort for both internal and external screen connectivity has been exceeding our expectations,” he said. “Demand for SlimPort®-enabled smartphones, tablets and notebooks is also fueling the company’s sustained sales,” Yang noted.

Additional mobile device manufacturers have introduced SlimPort-enabled products in a variety of form factors, including the most recent Amazon Kindle Fire HD line of tablets and the BlackBerry Passport smartphone.

Analogix is excited about new possibilities for SlimPort Transmitters with the release of DP Alternate Mode over USB Type-C specification recently published by VESA. “Customers are using SlimPort transmitters to support the DP Alternate Mode over Type-C,” noted Andre Bouwer, vice president of marketing for Analogix. “In fact, DP1.3 over a USB Type-C connector is the only generally available consumer standard capable of transferring 8K content.”

VESA published DP1.3 in August 2014 and the DisplayPort Alternate Mode specification was published in September 2014.

The expanding SlimPort ecosystem includes a worldwide network of accessory partners selling SlimPort certified adaptors, which undergo extensive qualification and testing to ensure the very highest product quality, and interoperability with the full range of SlimPort-enabled mobile devices.

Another significant growth driver for Analogix are the company’s low-power, high-speed LCD timing controllers (TCONs). Analogix demonstrated its eDP TCON product line for tablets and notebooks at IDF 2014 in September, including its Ultra-HD resolution TCONs with PSR (Panel Self-Refresh) capability, which optimize the mobile display’s performance and extend its battery life.
