ADP Traffic and Patrols Directorate Intensify Inspection of Worn-out Tires in Western Region

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, May 15th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Directorate General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police warned motorists against using substandard, faulty or worn-out tires. The directorate also intensified traffic awareness campaigns and control to acquaint drivers on the Abu Dhabi-Al Sila Road with the dangers of damaged or worn-out tires, which may lead to tire bursts that can result in serious injuries and fatal accidents.

As a part of the awareness campaign, the directorate called upon motorists to observe traffic law, reduce speed; pay attention; and to give priority to pedestrians especially in high density residential areas, markets and near industrial locations.

Major Suhail Sayah Al Mazroui, Chief of the Western Region Traffic Section, urged motorists, especially truck drivers on the Abu Dhabi – Al Sila Highway, to regularly check their vehicles’ fitted tires as well as the reserve (spare) tire before hitting the road. Also the tires’ air pressure should be checked. He also called upon them to change their tires if any breakage or cracks were found on their surfaces.

He also cautioned motorists, especially on highways, if replacing their vehicle’s tires on road to not leave the damaged ones by the road side, as they can become obstacles in the way of other drivers and lead to traffic accidents.

For his part, Captain Abdul Rahman Al Ali, Public Relations Branch Manager at the Western Region Traffic Section, said that the field awareness efforts target the areas where truck drivers mainly assemble along the Abu Dhabi – Al Sila Road. “This aims at raising truck drivers’ awareness about the need to check their tires regularly, and to purchase those of high quality that fit specifications in order to avoid serious accidents resulting from tire bursts,” he added.

Major Al Mazroui called upon drivers to examine the tires fitted on their vehicles in order to avoid tire bursts that can result in serious injuries and fatal accidents, especially with high temperatures during the summer that could cause tires wear and tear.  Moreover, he urged motorists to follow the correct instructions to ensure the safety of their vehicles’ tires by checking the validity of the tire frame, the measured temperature tolerance, the manufacturing date, and the appropriate cargo-load of the tires.
