Reem Island High-rise Fire Brought under Control

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Monday, June 8th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Abu Dhabi Civil Defense teams managed to put out the fire that broke out at a 22-floor tower under construction on Reem Island on Sunday night. Firefighters were quick to contain the flames before spreading any further; and no injuries were reported in the fire.

According to officials, the central operations room was alerted to the fire at about 11:33 p.m. on Sunday evening. Firefighting units from the Al Madina Fire Station were immediately dispatched to location and started to bring the fire under control, supported by units from Al Bateen and Al Mina Road fire stations and back-up teams from the Rapid Intervention Center at Al Falah. All of the teams collaborated and managed to put out the blaze; investigation is still underway to determine the circumstances of the fire.

Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Abdullah Ahmed Al Ansari, Director General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, called upon building developers, contractors, and owners to abide by the general safety guidelines and instructions issued by competent authorities for under construction buildings; and stressed the need to take all preventive measures and general safety requirements at buildings sites.
