Met with Participants of the Post Blast Conference and Reviewed the Accompanying Exhibition

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met with specialized experts and lecturers in the field of explosive-related incident investigations during a conference organized by the Directorate General of the Security and Ports Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. Participants of the Post Blast Conference 2015 convened from the United Arab Emirates, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia alongside officers from neighborly GCC countries. The conference, which kicked off on Monday, will continue for three days at the Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi hotel.
“The international community faces significant challenges and an array of criminal behavior that takes many different forms; which require new resolutions, cooperation and a collective of ideas from regional and international communities. Collaboration is essential to effectively provide safety, security, and protection for our societies,” HH Sheikh Saif said.
His Highness continued by saying that hosting Post Blast Conference in the UAE embodies the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and reflects the vision and aspirations of the UAE’s higher leadership to establish the UAE as an international leader in terms of safety and security. Expanding further, HH Sheikh Saif said that the conference exemplifies the keenness of fostering active partnerships with friendly and sisterly countries through cooperation, coordination, and communication in order to effectively face challenges and address explosive-related incidents. “These steps are based on our belief that responsibility does not lie in the hand of one individual alone, rather, it is a collective responsibility that requires concerted efforts and resources to properly address, control, and to prevent criminal behavior. In order to achieve security and safety, and enhance the regional and international march for stability, it is imperative that we utilize every method and strategy to combat current and future challenges,” said HH Sheikh Saif.
Adding further, His Highness indicated that the Ministry of Interior is committed to providing national cadres and female officers with the training and qualifications needed to effectively develop their competencies and practical skills. His Highness toured the pavilions of the exhibition accompanying the conference; in which a number of the participating national companies took part in. During his tour, HH Sheikh Saif was briefed on the displays of the latest devices, technologies, and advanced equipment that are used in explosive-related investigations. His Highness also inspected the pavilion of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), which featured the latest equipment and tools used by the Post-Blast Investigation (PBI) team affiliated with the Directorate General of the Security and Ports Affairs.
His Highness was accompanied by: Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, the Secretary General; and Brigadier Sheikh Mohammad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director General of the Security and Ports Affairs of the Peripheral Regions Directorate, alongside a number of director generals, department heads, and senior officers from the Ministry of Interior and nation-wide police general headquarters. Specialized officers from GCC ministries of interior, experts from the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia; and representatives of the armed forces and the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Authority (NCEMA) also attended.
Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at the Abu Dhabi Police, inaugurated the pavillion exhibition held on the sidelines of the conference. Touring the pavilions, Major General Badran expressed his admiration of the national companies’ displayed items that include modern and advanced techniques and equipment to improve police and security work.
During his speech on the occasion of the conference’s inauguration, Colonel Homaid Al Afrit, Head of the Weapons and Explosives Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, expressed his sincerest thanks and appreciation and pride for the police leadership, for its unwavering support to the police system in general, and to the conference in particular.
The conference discussed a number of specialized working papers and the participants screened a documentary about the Post-Blast Investigation (PBI) team at the Abu Dhabi Police. The documentary highlighted that in 2010, following the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the PBI team was established at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters in order to achieve the most accurate results derived from the best international practices.
Lieutenant Khalid Al Shehhi, Head of the PBI team, presented an overview highlighting the major achievements that the team has accomplished in terms of police and security work since its inception.
For his part, expert Alun Davies, from the Abu Dhabi Police, addressed the nature of the work for the federal investigation team, its tasks and duties, the purposes of its establishment, as well as the sponsors and entities supporting the team. Davis additionally reviewed the various internal and external training received by the team and the future vision to form the team at the country level.
Mr. Gerard Cummins, from the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom, submitted a specialized security working paper. At the end of the events of the first day, the floor was open for discussion, where the experts answered the questions and inquiries of the conference participants.
