Company first to offer vital signs device that can accommodate both digital oral/axillary/rectal and ear thermometry accessories simultaneously
SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y., Wednesday, November 17th 2010 [ME NewsWire]:
(BUSINESS WIRE)- Welch Allyn, a leading global provider of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced it has added the Braun ThermoScan® PRO 4000 Ear Thermometer as an accessory option to the Welch Allyn Connex® Vital Signs Monitor, part of the Welch Allyn Connex® Electronic Vitals Documentation (EVD) System. The device can also accommodate the Welch Allyn SureTemp® Plus electronic thermometer, making it the first multiparameter vital signs device that can accommodate both thermister oral/axillary/rectal and tympanic ear thermometry accessories simultaneously.
The Braun ThermoScan® PRO 4000 Ear Thermometer is designed to take temperatures easily and accurately with the click of a button. It has an easy-to-read LCD display with icons that clearly communicate in any language, an intuitive user interface and ergonomic shape. The Braun ThermoScan is the only ear thermometer with a preheated probe and sensor for more reliable readings. Its exclusive ExacTemp™ technology includes an active user feedback LED, allowing for faster and more accurate anatomical positioning, and its prominent memory button conveniently recalls the last temperature reading. In addition, the automatic probe cover eject button reduces the risk of cross-contamination.
“The Braun ThermoScan PRO 4000—already established as an outstanding product on its own—is an exciting addition to the Connex EVD System and a great example of the ways in which Welch Allyn platform products can be customized and extended to provide the specific solutions health care providers need,” said Alisa Salibra, global category manager, Thermometry, at Welch Allyn. “Making an ear thermometry option available provides clinicians with a choice of preferred thermometry technology, taking the already exceptional Welch Allyn Connex EVD System and makes it even better, resulting in greater efficiencies, accuracy, and, of course, patient care.”
Introduced in August 2010, the Welch Allyn Connex EVD System significantly reduces vital signs documentation errors in acute care settings. By converging all aspects of vital signs documentation into one system, including patient data capture and wireless transfer to electronic medical records (EMRs), medical charting and documentation errors are reduced thereby improving clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. In addition, the Connex EVD System provides clinicians in non-critical care settings with immediate access to vital signs anytime, anywhere.
Without a digital solution such as this, studies have shown that 10,000 omission and/or transcription errors can occur per year for a typical 200-bed facility; 8,000 hours can be wasted with manual vital sign documentation; and more than $250,000 can be lost in productivity due to lack of access to vitals. The availability of an automated system that captures and wirelessly transmits patient data minimizes all of these issues.
The Welch Allyn Connex EVD System includes the Connex Vital Signs Monitor, Accessory Cable Management Stand, Connex Vitals Management Software, and the new Welch Allyn Partners in Care ServicesSM program that provides personalized support and installation.
