Reinforcement of Oberthur Technologies’ sustainable development policy
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Oberthur Technologies, a world leader in the field of secure technologies, is proud to announce that its manufacturing plant in Vitré has been FSC certified. The group is now eligible to label appropriate products with the FSC logo –PaperSIM cards produced in Vitré.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-governmental, not-profitable organisation which was established in 1993 to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable forest management. It is a pioneer forum where the global consensus on responsible forest management convenes. It also offers, through democratic process, solutions to the pressure facing the world’s forests and forest-dependent communities.
One of the key programmes undertaken by Oberthur Technologies consists in developing responsible methods and practices for addressing today’s top environmental concerns. In this context, Oberthur Technologies has taken a number of steps to contribute to reducing its social and environmental impacts by using renewable products from well managed forest resources.
This FSC recognition demonstrates Oberthur Technologies’ commitment to preserving the environment by protecting world’s forests. This has become a vital component of a comprehensive strategy to combat and adapt to climate change and reduce carbon footprint. This certification guarantees and certifies that wood-based products used for the production of paper-based cards (PaperSIM by Oberthur Technologies) are verified from the forest of origin and throughout the whole supply chain.
“As a global corporate citizen, Oberthur Technologies takes a respectful approach to the environment and develops business practices that reflect its endeavours to help sustain the long term viability of our planet” said Xavier Drilhon, Managing Director, Card Systems Division, Oberthur Technologies. “In this context, we have decided to undertake a series of site certifications to comply with the highest social and environmental standards. “
With this Vitré plant certification, the FSC organisation has reached the 20 000th CoC (chain of Custody) certificate.
In 2010, around 70 million eco-friendly cards were issued by Oberthur Technologies.
