DP WORLD NHAVA SHEVA SUPPORTS FOREST PROTECTION PROJECT NEAR MUMBAI

In line with its core values of responsible corporate behaviour and active engagement with the communities in which its operates, global marine terminal operator DP World has joined hands with local green campaigners in the western Indian state of Maharashtra to plant 20,000 bamboo saplings.
The tree plantation drive took place in the village of Ransai and involved the participation of representatives of DP World Nhava Sheva, the Uran district Forest Department, the Powai Rotary Club, and scores of enthusiastic villagers.
The bamboo plantation programme, called “Hari Kranti” (Green Progress), was jointly conceived by DP World Nhava Sheva management and the Forest Department to support the country’s drive to raise the forest cover from 23 per centto 33 per cent of the land mass by 2012.
Global warming and climate change have become the focus of environmental debate as India pushes ahead with massive infrastructure development and is emerging as one of the world’s top economic power houses.
