Constellation Networks Connects the Unconnected with SES
NEW YORK & LUXEMBOURG - Tuesday, October 11th 2011 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- SES (Paris:SESG)(LuxX:SESG) today announced Constellation Networks Corporation (CNC) has signed capacity deals on two satellites to deliver life-changing Internet access to remote communities around the world.
Constellation Networks has signed a multiple year contract on SES’ NSS-10 and NSS-12 satellites to meet the basic communications needs of isolated towns and villages across the globe, including Africa, the Middle East, Australia, India, China and Europe. More than half of CNC’s satellite-delivered broadband is enabling everything from AIDS and malaria research to small business growth in virtually every African nation. The Traverse City, Michigan-based firm has come a long way since first connecting a cyber cafĂ© in Lagos, Nigeria.
CNC’s Internet connections have led to emotional ties to many of its newly empowered customers, including American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq who subscribe to internet services and receive an occasional care package of homemade cookies from the satellite broadband provider.
“Together with SES, Constellation Networks is opening up new worlds of information and communication for people and businesses in some of the most remote places on earth,” explained Megan Hall, Director of International Sales for Constellation Networks Corporation.
“Satellite-delivered Internet access is forever changing and improving lives and businesses everywhere, most notably in places where infrastructure is virtually non-existent,” said Kristin Grassa, president and CEO of Constellation Networks Corporation. Grassa has been driven to connect the un- and under connected since living in Sri Lanka without access to basic communications. “SES satellites, people and expertise are enabling us to close the communications gap and help ignite economic development around the world,” Grassa noted.
“Constellation Networks has grown its innovative satellite broadband business on the SES fleet over the last eight years, connecting remote villages and businesses to the outside world and a brighter future,” said Scott Sprague, Senior Vice President Global Sales, SES. “We look forward to growing our partnership with Constellation Networks, which is making a difference in the lives of thousands of people throughout the world.”
