Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan received on Tuesday November 1st 2011, the official certificate of accession of the UAE as of today to the universal membership of the Steering Group of Interpol for the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) programme.
The certificate was presented to Sheikh Saif by Interpol officials at a meeting in his office today “Tuesday,” with Ali Muhammad Al Ali, the regional officer, sub department of Interpol’s National Central Bureaus in MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), representing Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble, accompanied by Simon Jedrowski, Manager of Interpol’s Disaster Victim Identification Department, and John Kotz, Criminal Officer at Interpol’s Disaster Victim Identification Department sub department.
HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan said, “The UAE, under instructions from the higher leadership, supports the activities and goals of the Interpol.” HH Sheikh Saif asserted the importance of the fruitful cooperation between UAE Ministry of Interior and Interpol, in a way that contributes to achieving the aspirations on an international level.
Al Ali remarked that UAE is considered, after this membership, the thirteenth member of the Steering Group of Interpol for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) programme, recognizing the high standard of the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) GHQ, in addition to the high level that ADP Office of Victims Affairs have achieved on both the Arab region and international levels. He also said that ADP Office of Victims Affairs represents a role model for other countries for the methods and procedures used to identify victims of disasters and mass injuries.
Given that UAE is now an international member, Colonel Mohamed Ali Al Dalal, Panel Vice President, the Office of Victims Affairs in the Ministry of Interior, and Major Raed Ali Almuhairi, Manager, the Office of Victims Affairs in the Ministry of Interior, were assigned as official members, representing UAE in all the meetings and international participations related to the “international group.”
The meeting was also attended by Major General Nasser Lakhraibani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations, and Chairman of the Executive Committee at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) Board of Directors, Colonel Ali Khalfan Al Dhahiri, Director General of ADP GHQ Affairs and a number of officers.
