HH Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed stresses the importance of global cooperation in countering crime

H.H. Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, met delegations participating in the 2nd International Seminar for Police in the Gulf Region and the World. H.H. stressed the importance of cooperation between international police forces in fighting crime across borders including drug offenses and terrorism, and in promoting security.

On Tuesday, December 7th, the event continued in the presence of H.E. Lieutenant General Saif Abdullah Al Shafar Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Obaid Al Hairi Salem Al Ketbi, Deputy Commander General of Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, in addition to high ranking officials in the Ministry of Interior, and delegations.

Major General Obaid Al Hairi Salem Al Ketbi, Deputy Commander General of the Abu Dhabi Police pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Police have realized its need for an integrated structure for the successful management crises. The British framework was designed to meet the police forces’ needs for the UAE. Specialized training programs held in the UK, focused on facing crises and negotiation tactics in hostage situations.

Al Ketbi commented: “The congregation helped to create excellent networking among participants. The facilities provided at the operations center are recognized for the quality of their equipment, in addition to the successful management of traffic in ushering participants to the many events.”

Major General Mohammad Bin Al Awadi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police presented a work paper on Crisis Management Training. He explained that the Abu Dhabi Police have taken measures to manage crises through specialized courses for police by international institutes and experts. The Emirate’s search and rescue team is a UN certified middle class team; efforts to promote it to a ‘heavy team’ are underway. The team participated in international search and rescue operations following natural disasters.

The seminar’s first session, the international cooperation against crime, discussed three papers: the first by France on Police diplomacy, the second on sharing information presented by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, and the third presented by Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah, Deputy Commander General of the Dubai Police.

The Dubai Police have placed great emphasis on countering these crimes by forming units in the General Department of Criminal Investigations, and the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology. He also reviewed the phases of establishing the Special Forces for e-crimes.

The second session discussed training by representatives from Mexico, Canada, and Saudi Arabia. The third session addressed the challenges facing security strategies, in which representatives from Canada and Bahrain spoke about social media. Interpol representatives presented a paper on human trafficking, and the LA County Sheriff’s office presented a paper on money laundering.

H.E. Leroy D. Baca, Los Angeles County Sheriff, awarded certificates to Dr. Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Ahmad Ali Alkhzimi, Chairman of the Scientific Coordinating Committee at the Research and Security Studies Center at Abu Dhabi Police, who coordinated the seminar, and to Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Al Rasheed, the administrator of the seminar.
