MILWAUKEE - Wednesday, December 21st 2011 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Warwick Chemicals Ltd, a division of Warwick International Group Ltd, has awarded a $1.9 million order to Rockwell Automation (NYSE: ROK) and its Global Solutions team. The multi-phase project will replace Warwick Chemical Ltd’s distributed control system (DCS) solution with the Rockwell Automation PlantPAx process automation system to achieve a lower total cost of ownership, open connectivity with third-party systems, and improved service and support.
Warwick Chemicals Ltd leads the global market in manufacturing bleach activatorsfor the detergent and biocides industries. “Our current DCS was installed in 1994, extended in 1998, and then extended again in 2001. By replacing our 17-year-old DCS infrastructure, Rockwell Automation will help us meet productivity goals and aggressive process improvement plans,” said Colin Ainsworth, electrical, control and instrument engineer at Warwick Chemicals Ltd. According to research performed by the ARC Advisory Group, the global process industry loses approximately $20 billion annually, or about 5 percent of annual production, due to unscheduled downtime from aging DCS systems.
“This win is significant because it demonstrates Warwick Chemicals’ increasing trust in Rockwell Automation as their process control supplier,” said John Genovesi, vice president and general manager of the Information Software and Process Business, Rockwell Automation. “The PlantPAx process automation system provides Warwick with a single, integrated control platform based on standard communication protocols, which minimizes integration and maintenance costs while offering invaluable production insight. This win is an example of our growing position in the process control industry.”
Previously Warwick Chemicals Ltd relied on multiple control platforms for its manufacturing process. “PlantPAx will extend our success with Rockwell Automation to our process operations,” said Ainsworth. “It will also help us migrate to a single, plant-wide control platform that will be easier for our engineering staff to operate and maintain.”
“We’re pleased and honored to deliver this project,” said Terry Gebert, vice president and general manager, Rockwell Automation Global Solutions. “Our track record of successful DCS migrations continues to pave the way for Rockwell Automation and PlantPAx to be recognized as the best replacement for traditional DCS systems worldwide.”
