Hitachi Group to Exhibit at WORLD FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT 2012 in Abu Dhabi (UAE)
TOKYO - Thursday, January 12th 2012 [ME NewsWire]
World Future Energy Summit 2012
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) / (TSE: 6501) (“Hitachi”) and Hitachi Plant Technologies, Ltd. announced today that they will be among the Hitachi Group companies to exhibit at WORLD FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT 2012, which will be held from January 16 through January 19 this year at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). This exhibition is being staged as part of the Masdar Initiative advocated by H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Price of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces as a concept that aims to create a sustainable society. The Hitachi Group will showcase advanced water environment solutions, power systems and industrial solutions, and IT solutions for engineering at the Japan pavilion.
The Hitachi Group is stepping up global development of its Social Innovation Business, which provides advanced social infrastructure based on information technologie (IT). The Hitachi Group is concentrating on the Asian belt zone*1, including the Middle East, as a key region. By exhibiting at this summit, the Hitachi Group will widely showcase its technologies and products, with the view to expanding business in the Middle East.
An overview of the Hitachi Group’s exhibition is as follows.
Exhibition Overview
(1) Water Environment Solutions
The Hitachi Group will introduce various systems, including a compact MBR*2 + RO*3 system that uses membranes to purify wastewater for reuse. Other systems on show will be a solar and RO system that uses solar photovoltaic power to power seawater desalination facilities, along with an oil-water separation system for oil and gas plants that employs the coagulation and magnetic separation system, which uses magnetic discs to separate magnetized flocs of oil from water. The Hitachi Group will also exhibit Intelligent Water Systems that enable more efficient and environmentally friendly water circulation by using information technology (IT) for managing and controlling information on various forms of water flowing through cities, from the water supply to wastewater, industrial wastewater and reused water.
(2) Power Systems and Industrial Solutions
The Hitachi Group will showcase bifacial photovoltaic solar modules for power generation on both sides of solar panels. These modules are ideally suited to desert regions with little sand buildup through upright vertical installation. Other exhibits will include small and medium-sized electric-motor-driven LNG plants that are inexpensive to construct and offer other advantages such as lower noise levels and environmental impact. Another exhibit will feature CCS (Carbon Capture & Storage) technologies for recovering CO2 from thermal power plant flue gas for sequestration. Moreover, the Hitachi Group will show a solar-activated air-conditioning system. This system uses thermal energy generated by solar heat collectors to directly drive refrigerators that supply cooling water for air conditioning. (The Hitachi Group is currently conducting a feasibility study for this system in Masdar City, UAE, under contract for New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)). As a data center cooling solution, the Hitachi Group will also show off Ref Assist. This energy-saving air-conditioning system complies with the local ceiling-mounted air conditioning format, which meets ITU *4 standards. Another system on show uses deep seawater as the cooling source for air conditioning thereby saving energy, and also uses the seawater for desalination and industrial use.
(3) IT Solutions for Engineering
The Hitachi Group will exhibit eco-friendly IT solutions for engineering. These include StarBoard Link DR, a finger touch-sensor table system for sharing information in real time with remote locations. This system projects blueprints often used in the manufacturing industry on a screen in actual size where they can be expanded and contracted by pinching and drawn on. The Hitachi Group is also helping customers achieve greater work efficiency with a digital pen solution. This system supports work by digitalizing handwriting with a digital pen.
Note:
*1 Asian belt zone: Refers to 24 coastal countries and regions, extending from Japan to the Arabian Peninsula, including China, ASEAN countries, India and the Middle East.
*2 MBR: Membrane Bio-Reactor
*3 RO: Reverse Osmosis
*4 ITU: (International Telecommunication Union): A United Nations specialized agency headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, ITU aims to promote standardization activities in telecommunications and wireless communications fields, develop telecommunications technologies, and manage the radio-frequency spectrum.
