DIAC CELEBRATES NATIONAL DAY AS NEW FIGURES SHOW EMIRATI STUDENTS MAKE UP NEARLY TWENTY PER CENT OF STUDENT BODY

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, November 28th 2012 [ME NewsWire]

Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) and Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV) are hosting a range of celebratory activities this week ahead of the UAE’s 41st National Day on the 2 December 2012.  DIAC celebrates its 5th anniversary this year ahead of DKV’s milestone 10th anniversary next year.

The student population at DIAC is diverse, with almost 140 nationalities represented.  Of these nationalities at DIAC, Emirati students form almost twenty percent of the total student body.

Among the academic institutions taking part are the British University in Dubai, Imam Malik University, University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), Universite Saint Joseph Law School, American University in the Emirates (AUE) and Middlesex University.

American University in the Emirates (AUE) will have a mixture of amateur and professional performances, including stage shows presented by students and some by local school children.  There will also be poets from AUE on stage on the evenings of the 28 and 29 November and performances by local professional singers as well.  Traditional food and drink will be provided for those attending.

Middlesex University Dubai is holding an International Day celebration on November 29.   More than 30 nationalities will be participating in the event which reflects the cosmopolitan and multi-ethnic nature of the university.  Each country will have its own stall displaying its traditional food, music and national costumes.  There will also be a mixture of professional and student-lead shows put on by Middlesex University students.   These include Lebanese and Jordanian Dabke performances, a traditional dance from the UAE and an Indian Dhol show.  The music club will put on 8 performances, with the drama club also performing once.  The event will start at 10:30am and conclude at 5:30pm.

Speaking about the National Day events, Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Managing Director, TECOM Investments– Education Cluster, said: “Our student population is made up of a large number of different nationalities, so it’s great to see them all come together to celebrate National Day through not one, but a series of events.  It demonstrates the spirit of the student body and the commitment they feel to the UAE.”

DIAC and DKV, along with their business partners, are strong supporters of Emiratisation initiatives.  Whether it is through regular discussion of such initiatives with fellow experts at conferences and summits, or through the recognition of Emirati students with awards such as Manchester Business School’s Innovation Award for Emiratis, TECOM Investments’ Education Cluster demonstrates their commitment to building a knowledge-based economy incorporating these endeavours.

All National Day events are taking place ahead of the weekend on the 28 and 29 November 2012 on the DIAC and DKV campuses.
