Fluor Awarded PMC Contract for Sharq Crossing in Qatar
ME Newswire / Business Wire
IRVING, Texas - Thursday, May 16th 2013
Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that the company executed a contract with Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to provide program management and construction supervision services for the approximately $5 billion Sharq Crossing program – previously referred to as the Doha Bay Crossing program. A formal notice of award was received in January and the contract was recently signed by both parties. The approximately $185 million contract will be booked in Fluor’s second quarter of 2013.
Sharq Crossing is a marquee program in Qatar’s ambitious development plans ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The project will traverse Doha Bay and will comprise bridge sections interconnected by an immersed tube tunnel to create a new passageway beneath the waters of Doha Bay. Completion of the system is required by 2020 to support the run-up to the World Cup event.
“We are extremely proud to have been chosen to work side-by-side with Ashghal to develop and oversee this landmark project that will help transform the landscape of Doha,” said Herb Morgan, business line lead for Fluor Infrastructure. “Fluor’s strategic program management experience in the Middle East underscores the value we bring to our clients on major transportation and infrastructure projects like Sharq Crossing.”
The project will be led from Fluor’s Doha, Qatar, office with support from the Abu Dhabi and Greenville, S.C., offices. A team has already mobilized to the field and is supporting the client on the project.
