Motivate Group partners with Dubai Media City to Host UAE Ad Competition

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, May 7th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

Motivate Group, representatives of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, has announced the results of the 2013 UAE Young Lions competition.

The competition challenges young professionals at the start of their careers in the advertising industry, giving local talent the opportunity to showcase their work.

The competition was open to professionals up to 28 years of age, and participants took part in teams of two, consisting of an art director and a copywriter. The 15 participating teams were briefed to produce an original campaign of global standards in just nine hours for the SNF – the Special Needs Future Development Center, Dubai. The mandate was to produce print ads to generate public awareness on the Center’s activities and objectives in the UAE. The Center caters to the special needs community.

All the entries were displayed at Dubai Media City’s HQ. The Creative Club – a jury of industry experts from across the UAE, then judged the teams.

Dubai Media City, the Middle East and North Africa region’s largest hub dedicated to the media industry, pledged its commitment to supporting local talent by hosting and sponsoring this year’s UAE round of the Young Lions Competition for the fifth consecutive year.

Managing Director of TECOM’s Media Cluster, Mohammad Abdullah and Ian Fairservice, Managing Partner of the Motivate Group, representing Cannes Lions, jointly presented the awards to the first, second and third

place winners.

Mohammad Abdullah, said:  “We are delighted to have hosted the UAE round of this prestigious competition for the fifth time. There is a huge amount of local talent in the region, and we want to do everything we can to support their development. This event provides young talent with the opportunity not only to showcase their work, but also to meet and share ideas with other entrepreneurs and media professionals.”

Ian Fairservice added: “We are proud of the high quality of work presented by UAE’s young creative professionals from the advertising industry. This is the eleventh year we have held the event and it gets better every year. This is reflected by the stimulating ideas created by our Young Lions.”

The winning team, comprising Dalia Fadel and Philip Adrien of Drive Dentsu will be sent on an all-expenses paid trip to the 60th annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June. There, they will participate in the International Young Lions competition and attend seminars and workshops featuring global industry leaders. The Cannes Young Lions offers national teams the opportunity to compete against each other and showcase their creative talent, and could be instrumental in changing the participants’ careers. The 2013 edition of the festival will be held from 16 - 22 June.

Notably, previous UAE Young Lions winners have gone on to greater success at Cannes. In the last two years, local winners have bagged silver and bronze trophies there.

The UAE Young Lions competition was supported by Getty Images and Xerox.  The exhibition of work is open for public viewing until Thursday, May 9.
