10th Arab Conference for Heads of Security Media Offices Concludes

The United Arab Emirates took part in the 10th Arab Conference for Heads of Security Media Offices which concluded today at the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunisia. The UAE delegation was headed by Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Khaja, Deputy Director of Technical Affairs and Security Media Department, at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s Office.

Participants in the Conference recommended further joint Arab cooperation in the areas of security media. They called for leveraging modern technologies for security awareness and crime prevention; as well as educate Arab citizens on the risks and implications associated with these new technologies.

Furthermore, participants called for promoting the role of ​​the security media in combating drugs with good planning, so as to ensure the optimal use of the media to raise people’s awareness on the dangers of this scourge, taking into account the characteristics of the target groups. For this end, attendees recommended resorting to the expertise of the drug-related entities, namely; doctors; psychologists; pedagogues; preachers; and associations for prevention of drug addiction.

The participants also underscored the importance of combating the use of the Internet and social networking sites for drug trafficking and encouraging drug abuse. They stressed the need to establish websites and social networking pages to acquaint internet users with the dangers and ill effects of drugs.

The conference reviewed certain significant experiences witnessed in some Arab countries participating in the Arab Security Media Conference. The United Arab Emirates delegation submitted a working paper highlighting the State’s experience in Security Media, regarded as a pioneering experience in the Arab world. These recommendations were referred to the Council of Arab Interior Ministers’ next meeting, which is expected to convene early next year.

The United Arab Emirates delegation included Major Saeed Suhail Al Mazroui, Head of the Public Relations Section at the Western Region Police Directorate; Captain Abdul Muttalib Ahmed Al Hammadi, Head of Media Studies and Security Coordination; along with Captain Ahmed Hamad Al Mansouri, Head of Strategic Planning, the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s Office.
