The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), will launch the “Students Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility” campaign at the Khalifa City “A” School on September 8th.
Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, said: “The campaign aims to engage all social categories, as well as empower the role of schools, parents, education and administration entities, and school bus drivers in order to provide traffic safety for students during the new school year.” This announcement came during a press conference held at the directorate. H.E. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s Executive Director of School Operations, and Yusuf Ali Al Raisi, General Manager of the Government Relations, Health, Security, Safety and Environmental Affairs at Al Futtaim were present at the press conference.
Al Harithi stressed that the traffic safety of students is a collective and comprehensive responsibility that is not limited to one entity in society. “The duty of the family is to protect their children against traffic accidents, while schools should raise traffic awareness among students. Drivers, on the other hand, must be careful and pay attention to the students that happen to be in large numbers on the roads during the morning school shift and afternoon as well,” he explained.
He added: “The Abu Dhabi Police has prepared a comprehensive plan to provide students with traffic safety during the new school year. The plan includes more traffic patrols across congested areas around schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. We will also urge parents who drive their children to refrain from stopping randomly in front of schools in order to avoid traffic jams. Traffic awareness letters will be handed to parents via their children.”
Furthermore, the campaign will enhance communication with the education sector as it will organize around 200 lectures for students, drivers and bus supervisors. The campaign will also include 150,000 copies of printed material including brochures and coloring books in addition to gifts, traffic toys, school bags, and other school tools.
Al Harithi said: “During this school year, many awareness initiatives will be launched and executed under the sponsorship of Al Futtaim Motors. These initiatives will run across the entire year through the Abu Dhabi traffic program to put a limit to traffic accidents ‘Together’ on social media websites such as: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. These initiatives aim to spread traffic awareness among all societal categories.”
“The new initiatives will include the launch of a traffic initiative that targets students across all school levels. It aims to engage them and raise their traffic awareness. The initiative has three main aspects: traffic research, which includes a traffic film produced by students, a traffic photo album and traffic flyers; a traffic gallery; and an awareness idea that will help educate students. The directorate has devoted valuable awards for winners,” he added.
The programs include producing five educational traffic films that focus on traffic safety rules such as: crossing roads and using seatbelts in addition to the golden rule for using the school bus. Additionally, the programs will broadcast awareness messages via radio to explain ways to build a safe community.
For his part, H.E. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s Executive Director of School Operations, praised the partnership between Abu Dhabi Police and ADEC over the years, which has a positive impact in raising traffic awareness, providing traffic safety within the education sector, and protecting students against traffic accidents that may result in fatalities and severe injuries.
Al Dhaheri stressed the keenness of ADEC to empower the role of the education sector in the traffic awareness process by encouraging schools to improve and develop their activities in this regard, and to support efforts that aim to deliver a safe and sustainable environment.
He said: “ADEC and Abu Dhabi Police will launch traffic awareness programs for the new school year next Sunday, September 8, at the Khalifa City ‘A’ school. The celebration will include an awareness traffic gallery in addition to presenting gifts inspired by traffic topics suggested by students.”
Al Dhaheri called upon all institutions and schools, which provide student transportation, to adhere to the standards of school buses and guarantee its safety on the mechanical level, as well as equipping these buses with all the means necessary for the safety of students. He also urged them to provide guidance to bus drivers and supervisors to adhere to traffic safety instructions and stop only in designated areas, as well as refraining from overloading the school buses.
For this part, Yusuf Ali Al Raisi said: “In line with the social responsibility committed by Al Futtaim, and due to our commitment to engage in all activities that would improve traffic safety standards in our society, we affirm our support to the efforts of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police regarding the ‘Students Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility.’ This is a creative campaign to consolidate traffic safety rules in the mind of our students and other different societal categories, in order to avoid traffic accidents and its unnecessary consequences.”
