ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, September 19th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

As part of its ongoing commitment to keep abreast with all community events, the Abu Dhabi Police is taking part in the Abu Dhabi International Motorbike Show, which kicked off on Wednesday evening at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi. During the show, the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ will showcase its Falcon bike “Al Saqr”, which dazzled the public and visitors with its ability to work hard, thanks to its powerful engine. .

The Falcon was designed specifically for the Abu Dhabi Police, with unique features, unprecedented in the region, to ensure better interaction with the youths’ wishes and hobbies. This innovation has played a significant role in enhancing public trust in the police institution and promoting road safety. The bright-red and chrome Falcon bike, emblazoned with the Abu Dhabi Police logo is equipped with a siren, flashing lights, gloves, and most importantly a first-aid kit. The Falcon is characterized by its distinguished style, combining the unique UAE heritage and modern international styles.

Since its unveiling in June 2009, the Security Media Department at the Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has been using the Flacon Bike in all ADP traffic-related awareness campaigns targeting young people.

Moreover, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate is currently organizing a traffic-related exhibition to showcase the various bikes used by the directorate. It is also distributing awareness-raising publications to promote traffic awareness among bikers, reduce bike-related traffic accidents, in line with the ADP road safety strategy and the societal communication methodology.

Head of the Community-based Initiatives Team for the “Together” campaign in Abu Dhabi, Major Khalid Al Fil, from the Public Relations Department at Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate indicated that the Motorbike Show that started on September 18 will continue through Saturday September 21, and will feature a bike parade. Al Fil urged bikers and visitors to abide by the safety procedures to prevent injuries resulting from bike accidents, which cause 35 times more injuries than other vehicle accidents.

Major Al Fil stressed the need to adhere to security requirements for riding bikes, namely wearing a protective helmet to avoid severe head injuries, as well as wearing safety glasses that protect the eye against dust, gravels and insects.

“Bikers must wear gloves to protect their hands, high custom boots for desert bikes, and protective clothing, in addition to padded riding pants that protect from the motor’s heat.  It is also important to conduct a thorough inspection of the bike, to check engine oil, and the good condition of the front and rear brakes, lights, transmission gearing and tires to avoid malfunctions during use,” indicated Major Al Fil.

Also participating in the Show is the Community Police Department, the Directorate General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, to acquaint the public with its societal role.  The department is also distributing informational brochures at its pavilion, to highlight the risks of begging and drugs on society. The department is also showcasing an electric powered bike used in crowded places, particularly at the malls, and during big events and national celebrations.
