During his lecture at the National Defense College

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, delivered a lecture today on national security at the National Defense College (NDC). An elite group of top officers from the armed forces and the police attended the lecture. Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces; Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Staff Pilot Rashad Mohamed Salem Al Saadi, Commander of the National Defense College; a number of undersecretaries and directors at the Ministry of Interior; and NDC students attended the lecture.
At the opening of his speech, His Highness stressed the unique solidarity between the Emirati people and their wise leadership, which represents the major foundation for the unmatched development, prosperity, security and stability that is witnessed today. “The responsibility to achieve complete and constant security across the homeland is not exclusive to military and police institutions, but to all concerned civil and private sectors. It is very important to collaborate effectively among different components to achieve public benefit,” His Highness said.
His Highness expressed that the confidence in the NDC’s higher board and the honor bestowed onto it by making His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as its head will enable it to become a new stream for stability, security and prosperity in the country. This stability is attributed to the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and his brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
His Highness said: “It gives me great happiness today to witness the fruits of this tree that was planted by the hands of the leaders on our country’s land, as I see this distinguished academic edifice spreading its light and providing modern skills and knowledge to the homeland’s elite sons. It hosts people from different sectors, qualifies, and develops them to take the lead in the front lines protecting our homeland. It also enables them to identify and evaluate the challenges of national security. Those graduates, who are committed to the glory of their homeland, work around-the-clock for their country’s security and their people’s prosperity. They defend their land, and raise their flag high in the sky and over the sea.”
His Highness presented a historical introduction explaining the main developments and stages through which the national security concept underwent. His Highness explored and analyzed the main opinions given by experts and specialists regarding this concept. His Highness also addressed the major international events that influenced this concept, both positively and negatively.
He also explored a number of topics related to the national security concept, including its importance, foundations, and strategic dimensions in addition to the social comprehension of its nature and ways to empower the values of loyalty and belonging to the homeland. Addressing ways to protect the achievements and higher interest of the country, HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior delivered an induction on the total local scene, explaining the main challenges and ambitions that preoccupy officials, in order to guarantee the people of the UAE a bright future where they enjoy increased development and prosperity.
After the lecture, he answered questions posed by the students, all of whom showed a notable response to the topics. Transparent discussions took place around the topics addressed during the lecture.
Furthermore, Major General Staff Pilot Rashad Mohamed Salem Al Saadi, Commander of the NDC, welcomed the visit of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan. “This visit represents the great attention shown by the leadership towards the people of this country. The UAE leadership always stands up to the people’s scientific development and knowledge. The enlightened visions and the great expertise of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior regarding security fields helps draw the general framework for the curriculum, as well as aids the students to succeed in their research,” he said.
At the end of the visit, His Highness, along with the guests, toured the college, where they were introduced to the teaching and training halls. His Highness received the college’s shield from the NDC Commander. Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan also left a memorial note in the guestbook; memorial photos were taken as well.
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, had issued Federal Decree No 1 for 2012 to establish the NDC. According to the decree, the college belongs to the Armed Forces GHQ and is based in Abu Dhabi. It aims to complement the development system, in order to build the Emirati individual to be qualified with the latest military technologies. This helps stay in line with other developing fields in the country thereby achieving the goals of the nation.
The college, which is the most recent in this field, received its first batch mid August. A preparatory curriculum was in place before the start of the semester at the beginning of September. The batch includes 30 students, both males and females from different local and federal entities with either military or civil backgrounds.
