ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, November 25th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, the Diamond sponsor of the 2nd International Conference on Engineering Geophysics, displayed its leading project, “Forensic Geology Investigation.” The project utilizes advanced geophysical engineering technologies to fight and detect crimes for the first time across the country.
Participating in the conference, Colonel Abdurrahman Al Hammadi, Head of the Forensic Evidence Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, explained the project saying: “The project has received the Police Creativity Award from the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ in 2011. It is based on the idea of the police leadership and includes 3 main points: geophysics, geology tests and forensic data base.”
“Forensic geology plays an important role in geology evidences and crime scene and helps investigators and the judicial system to fight crime. It also plays a role in detecting locations that could be used to hide weapons, explosives and drugs. Furthermore, forensic geology helps search and rescue operations, as well as detecting buried dead bodies after criminal incidents, natural disasters and others,” he added.
Colonel Al Hammadi also said: “We should broaden the horizons of research in the future and adopt science to serve police and security work.”
The 2nd International Conference on Engineering Geophysics, which is organized by the Al Ain Municipality and the Emirates University, is taking place at the Crescent Building at the university until the 27th of November. The police sponsorship complements its mission for continuous communication and interaction with all society sectors.
