Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 26th 2014 [ME NewsWire]H.E Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, honored the winners of the late Mubarak Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan Snooker Championship on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi Police Officers Club. The championship kicked off on March 9th with the participation of 85 players.
The closing ceremony was attended by retired Major General Mustafa Shehab Al Hashimi, the championship director; Colonel Saif Al Kutbi, Police College Director; along with a number of officers and officials; Dominic Jermey, British Ambassador to the UAE; and T. P. Seetharam, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the UAE.
The ceremony began with the UAE national anthem, and then Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak honored the winners of the championship; player Habib Sabah, from the sister kingdom of Bahrain who came in first place; and players from the U.A.E. who came in second, third, and fourth places respectively as follows: Mohammed Hussein won second place, Mohammed Chehab won third place, and Khalid Al Kamali won fourth place.
The patron of the event honored the championship’s sponsoring entities and companies that played a major role in its success. The sponsors are: the Police College, the Police Officers Club, the UAE Billiards & Snooker Association, the Indian Business and Professional Council, Lulu Group International, Cosmos Group, Al Fara'a General Contracting Group, GEMS Education, Nikai Group of Companies, Nama Development Enterprises, Remal Trading, and Jashanmal National Company.
Moreover, the patron of the event received a commemorative gift from Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and another one from the Indian Business and Professional Council.
It is worth mentioning that H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, along with the audience, watched a friendly snooker match before the beginning of the closing ceremony. They also toured the second photo gallery that was held on the sidelines of the championship’s closing ceremony. The gallery includes a set of photographs of late Sheikh Mubarak Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan (may God have mercy upon his soul) throughout his career, as founding member of the police institution and Minister of Interior.
