The Grand Mufti His Eminence Dr. Shawki Abdel Karim Moussa Allam, one of the guests of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, delivered a lecture titled "National Service, Gratitude towards one's Country and Protection of its Gains" in Al Ittihad Hall at the Police College.
The lecture was attended by Colonel Saif Al Ketbi, Police College Director; Mohamed Obaid Al Mazroui, Director-General of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowment Foundation (GAIAEF); Sheikh Taleb Al Shehhi, religious preacher at the authority, heads of departments and chiefs of sections, and a number of officers, non-commissioned officers, civilians and lecturers from the Police College. The lecture was also attended by 337 students from the 25th batch of male cadets and university graduates, the 9th batch of female university graduates from the college.
His Eminence the Grand Mufti said that serving the country is a great honor and the sacred duty of all young men and women of the country, who are called upon to acquire the necessary skills, capacities and education to fulfill their national duty. “Citizenship is not bound to the official documents; it is a feeling that dwells deep within the soul,” he said.
The Grans Mufti also stressed the importance of the national service law to instill the values of loyalty, belonging and sacrifice values for the sake of the country, as well as to preserve its gains and achievements, and promote progress, security and stability. “Defending the Union is a sacred duty of every citizen, and national service is an honor for citizens as per the law,” he added.
At the end of the lecture, the floor was opened for discussions; the Grand Mufti, His Eminence Dr. Shawki Abdel Karim Allam answered the audience’s questions and queries.
