ADP Reviews London 2012 Olympic Games Safety Management Experience at the Ninth Knowledge Forum

The Abu Dhabi Police reviewed the British police experience in managing the London 2012 Olympic Games at the ninth ‘Knowledge Forum’ for exchanging knowledge and ideas. The forum, which was inaugurated by Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was held in the Forensic Evidence Hall at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and focused on the optimal means  to leverage the experience to manage  the upcoming Expo 2020 events.

The Secretary General indicated that the forum, which was organized by the Knowledge Centre at Strategy and Performance Development Directorate General, in collaboration with the Knowledge Higher Committee, embodies the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s vision to ensure that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi remains a society that enjoys safety and security, by providing high-quality police services to citizens, residents and visitors of the emirate.

He also added that knowledge forums enhance the knowledge culture and spreading it across all sectors, by implementing the best practices. “These forums represent the perfect opportunity to discuss and review the distinguished experiences and to share and develop knowledge,” he said.

For his part, Ian Quinton, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the National Olympic Security coordinator (NOSC) for London 2012 Olympic Games, gave an overview of the UK’s experience through a work paper that highlighted the major safety and security measures adopted to secure the London Olympic Games and Alternative Games 2012. He pointed to a number of challenges that have been avoided, including field inspection, international expectations, the need to integrate the efforts of public and private entities, the availability of workforce, and the work methodology. He then tackled the strategic plan that aims to organize championships within a safe and secure environment; by preserving the culture and the Olympic spirit.

Moreover, he highlighted the responsibilities of the Olympic Games Organizing Authority and the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games, as well as the responsibilities of the concerned parties in the security field and their work methodology. He concluded his presentation with the most important means and methods that have been applied to contribute to the Olympic Games’ success and ensure their security. The forum was attended by a number of senior officers and staff members from the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.
