Dubai United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, November 26th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Three experts combined their professions and love of aesthetics within the fashion, interior design, and textile industry to collaborate on a unique capsule. The furniture collection was showcased for the first time in the Middle East at the Kvadrat Maharam showroom in Dubai.
The partnership between Sir Paul Smith, a notable fashion designer, Maharam, a renowned textile producer and Carl Hansen & Son, a furniture manufacturer honored the 100th year anniversary of the birth of Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner!
Internal, long-standing partnerships between companies had already existed. Paul Smith's 12-year relationship with Maharam began when Sir Paul Smith was ecstatic about I Morosi Alla Finestra -a Gio Ponti design that Maharam had reissued- and wished to incorporate the textile within the lining of his suits! The two companies have since collaborated on 15 designs. Kvadrat Maharam enjoyed the devoted craftsmanship of Carl Hansen & Søn’s furniture and continues to work closely with them.
For this collection, Sir Paul Smith personally picked Maharam textiles and finishes to complement Hans J. Wegner’s classic furniture. The sculptural and staple Shell Chair captured the patterns of upholstered 'Big Stripe by Paul Smith’ while other pieces of furniture incorporated the new colors of ‘Stripes by Paul Smith’ to add an injection of vibrancy and sophistication.
Also on display were Paul Smith exclusive SS15 accessory pieces that incorporate the textiles Sir Paul Smith created in collaboration with Maharam, further proving the lasting impression this partnership has had on the designer and his collections.
The showroom’s display welcomed guests as they all had personal tours and one-on-ones with representatives from Carl Hansen & Son and Kvadrat Maharam, who brought history and heightened detail to this partnership in celebration!
