Al Somow School in Al Ain Establishes Small Traffic Awareness Village
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, March 24th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate recently established a small traffic awareness village at the Al Somow Primary School (Cycle 1) in Um Ghafa, Al Ain. The mini village is set up to help the students learn more about the rules and regulations of traffic; and falls within the framework of the field training and education programs for children which includes organizing such traffic villages and other fundamental educational methods in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The traffic awareness village includes: speed limit signs, warning boards, a simple layout of traffic routes, instructions on proper methods to board and exit buses, the proper ways to sit while inside the bus, and the proper ways of crossing streets at the designated crosswalks.
Captain Jaber Al Qasimi, Support Services Branch Manager at Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section, indicated that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police seeks to enhance the level of traffic safety amongst students of all academic levels through such visits that are in cooperation and coordination with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and the Al Ain Educational Office. “Students are the most important category for us when we have targeted awareness campaigns. It is important to invest in the children in order to build a future generation of individuals who are intellectually aware of the traffic laws and regulations,” he said.
Captain Hamdan Hassan bin Thiban, Public Relations Branch Manager at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, praised the school for their role in contributing to the spread of the traffic culture amongst its students. He recognized the school’s presentations that included theatrical performances about driving vehicles, motorbikes, what to do when crossing the road, and mistakes drivers and pedestrians make alongside poem recitations about traffic signals.
Moreover, the Captain stressed the need for continuous communication and coordination between schools and traffic personnel. He urged the parents of the students to instill the principles of safety within their children by showing them how to properly enter vehicles, by not allowing underage children to sit in the front seats, and by ensuring that children are properly seated and buckled throughout the car ride in order to ensure their safety.
