Delegation from the Nuclear Regulation Authority Examines Security Media Experience

A delegation from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), represented by the Government Communication Department at the Authority, was briefed on the efforts and objectives of the Security Media Department at the Security Support Directorate General at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior in keeping up with events and in the area of government communication.

Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Director of the Security Media Department, welcomed the visiting delegation. “The Security Media Department is the governmental communication arm for the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police. It is entrusted with the task of delivering the media discourse of the Ministry as quickly and objectively as possible so as to communicate the necessary requirements needed to enhance the sense of security and public safety. It also strives to promote positive behavior and patriotic spirit, with a view to activate community partnership and other community-based and humanitarian objectives,” he said.

He also confirmed that the vision and mission of the Security Media Department are based on working efficiently, effectively, objectively, and accurately. This is in order to strengthen the police’s efforts that aim to maintain the security and safety of the UAE society and to support its efforts in providing services according to the highest standards at every level. 

Moreover, Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah lauded the visiting delegation from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) within the framework of exchanging institutional information and knowledge in order to maintain unified and consistent government messages. He stressed the importance of investing and developing institutional relations through mutual visits throughout the year to ensure streamlined and circulated information amongst the units of governmental communication within the emirate of Abu Dhabi.  

For his part, Captain Abdul Karim Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Head of the Strategic Planning Section in the Security Support Directorate General, explained that the Ministry’s strategy aims to employ a balance of effective and comprehensive traditional communication tools and channels alongside modern and interactive tools to deliver the Ministry’s media messages. He also noted that the department endeavors to improve and develop the capabilities and skills of the government communication team within the framework of a strategic plan by organizing introductory workshops for the various units at the MoI in order to boost their awareness regarding the valuable role of government communication.

He stressed the importance of reviewing similar experiences and practices, conducting benchmarking comparisons and field studies, and examining the best practices applied at the department. Captain Al Marzouqui also briefed the visiting delegations on the strategic initiatives established by the Security Media Department, which are set to be implemented in accordance with the Ministry of Interior’s Government Communication Strategy 2014-2016.

The visiting FANR delegation, headed by Shaikha Al Muhairi, Acting Head of the Government Communication Department at the Authority and Rashid Al Falahi, Acting Chief of the Governmental Affairs Section; gave a presentation on the Authority’s government communication strategy and its organizational structure. The presentation also included FANR’s vision to ensure safety and security through the provision of peacefully using nuclear energy and ionizing radiation within the country through the development of regulations in accordance to international standards and implementation of its supervision.

The presentation highlighted that the mission of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation is based on protecting the public, personnel, and the environment through the implementation of nuclear control programs that include radiation protection. The main objectives are to be achieved through licensing and inspection areas according to the best global practices and through capacity building to ensure sustainability. Additionally, the goal is to oversee the implementation of all obligations imposed on the UAE under international treaties and conventions in the nuclear energy sector alongside the administrative standards that support excellence in the regulatory field.
