The
Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department at the Abu Dhabi Police
organized at its headquarters, a campaign on the health risk of smoking.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Health Authority - Abu
Dhabi, to mark the World No Tobacco Day, which is observed every year on
May 31, with the participation of a large number of staff members and
customers of the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department.
As
part of the campaign, health awareness leaflets were distributed to
employees and customers, highlighting the health risks of smoking, its
negative effects on the health of smokers and those around them. The
campaign also included medical tests to measure blood nicotine, in
addition to tips on how to quit smoking and its benefits.
Major
Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Public Relations Branch Manager, stressed that the
Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department has organized this campaign
out of its belief in the importance of raising the awareness of staff
members and customers and acquainting them with the health risks of
smoking and its adverse impacts on human life, health and the
environment. “Through this campaign, the department seeks to contribute
to the success of the World No Tobacco Day events, promote a healthy,
clean and smoke-free environment; and raise the level of health
awareness among them,” added Major Al Tunaiji.
In conclusion,
Major Al Tunaiji emphasized that smoking is the leading cause of death
in the world; therefore people must quit smoking and endeavor, in
cooperation with all institutions and segments of society at the
countrywide level, to eradicate this harmful scourge, for its risks on
both the individual and the family.
