His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al Owais, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Acting Minister of Health inaugurated the 3rd Pan-Arab Regional Working Group Congress on Military Medicine at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC).
Over 1500 delegates from all over the world and state bodies were welcomed by General Dr. Saeed Bin Mohammed Al Asmari, Director General of the General Administration of Medical Services for Armed Forces in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the current Chairperson of the Pan-Arab Regional Working Group to discuss the study of papers, scientific research, workshops and debates related to the fields of Military Medicine.
Medal of chairmanship of the regional group on military medicine was presented to the new chairman of the working group and Commander of the Medical Services Arm of the UAE, Colonel Dr. Mohammed Sabil Al Dhanhani.
Soldier’s performance under extreme environment was addressed by Dr. Warren Lukt, Deputy US Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs who shed light on the role of genes in individual’s adaptation with harsh conditions and encouraged the activation of scientific research in this field.
Scientific sessions were held under the presence of elite physicians from the Medical Service Arm and participant countries with main focus on medical evacuation at the time of war, management of fatal injuries before arrival to the hospital, successful enterprises to combat obesity amongst military officials and handling strategies of refugees and afflicted civilians at the time of wars and catastrophes. Also, a focus was shed on recent scientific and technological developments in the field of neurosurgery, assessment of psychological cases and treatment of psychological diseases amongst soldiers.
With the UAE Armed Forces active involvement in the organizational role in bringing this International Congress on Military Medicine to light, it is the Military Medicine’s wish to see the this working group effectively fulfilling its role in achieving the goals of the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) in all categories (scientific and humanitarian).Consequently leading to the organization of a Congress that would provide an opportunity for all those involved to gain valuable scientific expertise and knowledge in the field of Military Medicine regionally as well as internationally, hoping that all those involved including participants in the congress have a pleasant stay and experience in their second home country the UAE.
