The Ministry of Interior hosted a ceremony to announce the launch of a Human Rights Professional Diploma initiative, which aims to prepare and qualify national cadres in human rights law and policies. The event, which was organized by the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior, took place at the Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS) in Abu Dhabi.
Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah, Head of Human Rights Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior, attended the event.
In his speech during the ceremony, Colonel Mohammed Al Shehhi, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department, said that the execution plan of the national initiative is composed of four major steps or phases. “In the first phase, the ministry of Interior’s staff members were invited to submit their applications for enrollment in the initiative. Candidates were evaluated and personal interviews were conducted in the second phase. The third phase included the specialized training according to which candidates are granted a professional diploma in Human Rights. The final and fourth phase , which includes practical implementation and results measurement, will be divided into two parts: the first part will take place in the UAE during 6 months and the second part will take place abroad during 3 months,” he explained.
Advisor Dr. Khairy Ahmed Al Kabash, human rights expert, valued the Ministry of Interior’s initiative, which reflects its keenness to enforce the law while maintaining human rights. “The MoI has shown keen interest in qualifying skilled national staff to deal with all human rights issues locally and internationally, as per the UAE’s keenness to respect and ensure human rights and freedoms without discrimination.
Dr. Al Kabash extended his thanks to the Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies for the efforts exerted to organize the event. He called upon the trainees participating in the initiative to avail of this valuable initiative and make significant contributions, and wished everyone the best of luck.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Human Rights Department, has endeavored since 2014 to prepare and qualify national staff specialized in human rights, in order to empower them to deal with international and regional changes, as well as monitor international reports and determine the proper mechanisms to handle such reports and spread the human rights culture in the police community.
The diploma launch ceremony was attended by Brigadier Khamis Al Ka'bi, Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee; Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, Director of the Dubai Police Human Rights Department; Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General at the Ministry of Interior; Colonel Mohammed Ali Al Shehhi, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department; along with heads of departments and a number of officers.
