KCI Opens Shared Service Center in Budapest to Conduct Global Transaction Processing

Hundreds of Jobs to Be Created to Support Functions

SAN ANTONIO, Thursday, September 16th 2010 [ME NewsWire]:

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (NYSE:KCI) today announced the official opening of its shared service center in Budapest, Hungary. The center, which will be staffed by mostly local residents of Budapest and surrounding areas, will strengthen the company’s ongoing quality and operational excellence initiatives.

KCI will centralize transaction-based functions presently served at multiple locations throughout the world, resulting in greater operational efficiency and quality. These measures help make it possible for KCI to invest in its employees and in innovative medical technologies to ensure the company maintains its market leadership position globally.

Hungary was selected as the site for the facility after evaluating capabilities in several countries. Ultimately, Budapest was chosen based on its well educated, highly skilled and multi-lingual workforce, quality of life, and strategic location in Central Europe.

Several hundred jobs are expected to be created over the next few years as KCI transitions transactional activities in the areas of finance, administration and human resources to the center. Initially, 50 KCI employees will work in the nearly 26,000 square-foot (2400m2) facility, which will increase to more than 45,000 square-feet (4,200m2) next year as staffing reaches about 100 employees.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to establish a presence in Budapest and to be part of the business community in this great area of the world,” said Catherine Burzik, KCI President and Chief Executive Officer. “I want to acknowledge the efforts of the Hungarian Investment and Trade Development Agency (ITD Hungary) in making the country an attractive location for KCI to establish this global service center. We are proud to be one of the newest employers in the region and to play an important role in job creation.”

"The decision by KCI to locate its global shared service center in Hungary shows that the quality of the local workforce can satisfy the needs of highly selective global companies," said Marianna Dene, CEO of ITD Hungary. "Currently we are in talks with 30 potential investors about new projects, and we are very pleased that our efforts bore fruits in case of KCI. We hope KCI's investment in Hungary will be another important milestone in the history of this very successful global company," she added.

In 2009, the Hungarian government's investment and trade promotion agency ITD Hungary, facilitated 27 FDI transactions, totaling 900 million EUR in value, and creating 5500 new jobs, locally.

“KCI is devoted to making its innovative treatments available across the globe to help patients heal. As our presence continues to grow, Hungary will serve as an integral part of those efforts,” said Adriano Cito, General Manager, KCI-Hungary.
