ADP and Samsung cooperate to enhance mobile security
First national law enforcement body adopts KNOX globally

The Information and communications technology (ICT) Department at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarter has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, a global leader in digital technologies and electronics, to benefit from Samsung’s latest innovative technologies to improve mobile security.
Installation of the KNOX, the security solution from Samsung for smart phones, is currently underway. It provides enhanced security features by isolating the work environment from the personal environment on mobile devices.
KONX provides security for enterprise data on Android devices, and provides users with reassurance to use their mobile devices to be utilized personal applications and data separate from the work environment without the risks of malware and malicious attacks.
The ICT Department at Abu Dhabi Police has tested KNOX on multiple devices and is planning to gradually deploy this technology to secure all Abu Dhabi Police staff members’ mobile phones.
Colonel Anwar Al Mulla, Head of ICT Department, said: “The department is constantly seeking to adopt the latest global technologies to support the strategic goals of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. The Department is the world’s first national law enforcement entity to adopt this advanced security solution and features of Samsung KNOX. Several law enforcement bodies across the world are currently testing this multi-faceted system, but the Abu Dhabi Police is the first entity to approve and deploy it.”
“As part of its existing initiatives, the ICT Department has been keen to support the use of smart applications on mobile devices for police forces. The initiative aims to advocate the optimal use of resources and technologies to provide extensive services to community members and gain their trust,” he added.
Lieutenant Colonel Tarek Al Hassani, Chief of the Technical Support Section at the ICT Department, said: “Deploying the Samsung KNOX security solution allows us to use smart applications within the enterprise and between all categories of the ADP staff members, while guaranteeing a high level of security and preventing data leakage of information, thus protecting confidential information and data.”
For his part, Captain Mohammed Al Obaidly, Research and Technical Resources Branch Manager said: “The ICT Department has started testing the KNOX solution as soon as Samsung announced it. Extensive trials were carried out to test its operational efficiency. Currently, the solution will be made available for a specific number of people, before full deployment to include all police staff members. A special committee has been formed to evaluate the system and examine its features and efficiency.”
Lieutenant Colonel Tarek Al Hassani and Captain Mohammed Al Obaidly had met the KNOX team at Samsung’s main offices to discuss issues related to implementation. Samsung has agreed to provide full technical support to Abu Dhabi Police regarding the installation and development of this advanced security solution.
KNOX solution provides enhanced security for enterprises at all levels of the Android platform, from the integrated hardware, infrastructure, through to the applications. It supports users’ privacy to enjoy personal tasks without compromising enterprise security.
Madhav Narayan, Senior Regional Director, Samsung Gulf Electronics, reiterated the company’s commitment to support the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to fully integrate and deploy the Samsung KNOX solution to suit their requirements. “Since signing the MoU, we have been working with the ICT Department to provide all requirements for testing and evaluating the system,” he said.
He added: “The system has successfully passed all security tests undertaken by the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and it is ready for gradual deployment to all police staff members’ mobile phones. The adoption of the KNOX advanced security system by the ICT Department is testament to the system’s operational readiness for deployment within the security sectors. Samsung is looking forward to building a close partnership with the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, represented by the ICT Department, to implement other initiatives using Samsung’s advanced products.”
