The

Training Department at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and
Emirates Sky Travel LLC, organized the first on Military-Style Food
Forum at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday morning.
Brigadier
Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Head of the Procurement and Warehouses
Department, delivered a speech at the meeting’s inaugural event. He
reasserted the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s commitment to adopting cultural,
social, health policies that help to enhance awareness levels and the
promotion of knowledge.
Brigadier Al Nuaimi also said: “The first
Military-Style Food Forum reminds us of the famous proverb: ‘A sound
mind in a sound body’.” He explained that a lot of scientific research
has proved that regular exercising can replace medicine; as it reduces
the chances of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
Brigadier Al
Nuaimi added: “We hope that this forum achieves our aspirations. We
have felt the importance of educating Abu Dhabi Police’s staff members
on healthy practices and eating habits, which suit the nature of the
training and tasks assigned to them.”
Brigadier Al Nuaimi pointed
out that sharing multiple and various perspectives on the issue helps
in achieving important results. Based on this belief, Abu Dhabi Police
has been keen to consult food experts and specialists to provide a
summary of their experiences and their research, so as to reach the
vision and the development of standards and best practices in this area.
The forum’s agenda included four papers presented by expert
nutritionists. Dr. Rasheed Al Hammadi, Professor, Anatomy and Neural
Cell Biology at United Arab Emirates University
“UAEU” presented
a paper titled “Food and Human Body.” He gave a scientific overview of
the human body digestive system organs, the gastrointestinal tract,
tissues, and cells that are related to the eating, and digestive
(breaking down) processes of food molecules. He elaborated on the
importance of a balanced diet, which includes sufficient amounts of the
essential nutrients that are in accordance with a person’s age, career,
and environment. This is done in order to maintain a healthy digestive
system.
Dr. Al Hammadi also cautioned against unhealthy
unbalanced diet as it causes serious damage to the digestive system.
Additionally, Dr. Al Hammadi stressed the importance of practicing
sports, as it strengthens muscles and reduces body fat.
“Food-Related
Risks and Effects” was the title of the second paper presented by Dr.
Fadi Al Natour, Agriculture Risk Lead analyst at Abu Dhabi Food Control
Authority. He stressed the importance of maintaining the safety of food
to ensure the consumer’s health and protection against foodborne
diseases. He also explained in detail the main food pollutants and the
diseases they may transmit. Additionally, he stressed the importance of
providing safe and quality food to people in general, particularly
military personnel.
The third paper tackled the food system under
the title “Military-Style Food” presented by Professor Nada Zuhair,
Head of Community Nutrition Department at Tawam Hospital, Al Ain. She
presented a strategic nutrition plan for military personnel and the
standards that must be adopted. Additionally, she elaborated on the role
of healthy food in providing high levels of fitness for military staff
that will be positively reflected in their performance.
The final
paper tackled the topic “History of Nutrition”, presented by Hassa Al
Bloushi, Nutritionist at the Procurement and Warehouses Department at
Abu Dhabi Police. She explained that the human body, plants, and animals
are shaped by the surrounding environment nutrients. The human body
loses some of these nutrients while growing, working, thinking, and
exerting efforts; cells and tissues are either damaged or consumed
during the biological processes. Therefore, the human body is required
to compensate the loss of these nutrients with food.
Al Bloushi
also explained that police staff members play an essential role in
society and fulfill multiple tasks. For this reason, police personnel
must have a solid physical structure; it is imperatively important for
them to take extra care of their diet, which should follow safe health
and nutrition standards.
Al Bloushi also indicated that the
“First Military-Style food Forum” focuses on developing food-specific
concepts, with a view to set up a dietary pattern based on special
standards. This can be achieved through a number of studies to determine
the proper dietary style, to prepare this important category of
society, the military personnel, for their future military tasks,
advanced training, in fulfilling their assigned duties.
Towards
the end of the “First Military-Style Food Forum”, Brigadier Saeed Saif
Al Nuaimi, Head of the Procurement and Warehouses Department at Abu
Dhabi Police honored the attendees and presented commemorative shields
and commemorative gifts.
The meeting was attended by Colonel
Waleed Al Shamsi, Director of Police Schools Department, in addition to a
large number of officers and civil staff members from various
departments at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. Additionally, a large number of
recruits from the Police College and Civil Defense Academy attended the
