Badria Al Naqbi’s Ramadan Council Recommends a Curriculum that Reinforces Financial Literacy


Praised the MoI’s Efforts to Communicate with the Community

The Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior organized a Ramadan Council on Saturday evening, and  was hosted by Badria Al Naqbi  at her house in Murbah area in Fujairah. The Council held under the theme “United in Knowledge: Financial Education for UAE Families”, was attended by a number of specialists in the fields of education, society and family and a large number of society women from the Emirate of Fujairah. The Council was moderated by media figure Shahd Ibrahim Al Abdouli.
As part of its recommendations, the coucil called for urging the Ministry of Education to introduce a   financial education curriculum in schools. They also stressed the need to reintroduce the subjects of home management and family economics in the academic curriculum, given their major role in nurturing future generations, enhancing their financial management skills, and boosting their basic family skills that help them to manage their family life and enhance their productivity.
The Fujairah women Ramadan council also highlighted the importance of setting forth rigorous decisions to avert lavish engagement and marriage ceremonies, encouraging mass weddings and supporting small businesses in Government and private schools, in a bid to promote the culture of investment and savings.
The participants also tackled a number of topics that focused on defining the consumer culture; identifying the difference between needs and desires; and the negative effects of consumer culture in the UAE. They also highlighted the key policies, actions and behaviors to be adopted to face this culture.
The council stressed the role of both the family and educational institutions in contributing to nurturing financially-conscious generations capable of managing financial matters, by promoting behaviors that increase public awareness of financial issues and developing their ability to save and invest.
On the same note, the participants praised the MoI’s initiative in organizing Ramadan councils and their instrumental role in raising awareness among members of the Emirati family. Media Figure Shahd Ibrahim Al Abdouli emphasized that such meetings encourage dialogue and discussion to assess the awareness of the various segments of society. “They also contribute to reinforce experiences and expertise in addressing various social issues involving community members and family,” she noted.
The council, which gathered a number of leading female cultural figures from Fujairah, highlighted a number of cultural and social issues that affect social awareness. It also shed light on some of the negative phenomena that need to be eradicated, namely; the consumer culture, which needs to be replaced by enhancing the financial management culture of the Emirati family.
Mrs. Rowaya Saif Sultan Al Samahi, former member of the Federal National Council (FNC), praised the advanced social and humanitarian initiatives accomplished by the Ministry of Interior, such as the Ramadan Councils in its second consecutive years.
She stressed the need for additional and similar councils;  pointing out to the valuable  role of the Law Respect Culture Bureau in choosing the council's topics in a calculated manner, in a bid to engage  all social categories for the interest of their communities, and to reinforce the pioneering development efforts.
She invited the Ministry of Interior to convene such councils throughout the year, due to their positive impacts on efforts to address the various issues of interest to the Emirati society.
Fatima Obaid Al Mughni, former member of the Sharjah Consultative Council and Chairperson of the Sharjah Business Women Council, explained that convening women Ramadan Councils is a distinguished initiative, as part of the Ministry of Interior's Ramadan Councils. “Such councils aim to support the aspirations of Emirati women who are constantly seeking excellence. They are also testament to the higher leadership's keenness to empower women, who are regarded as an effective component of society,” she said.
She called for convening such councils throughout the year, due to their importance in discussing and addressing family and social issues. This proves that the Emirati society is an interactive society; and that women are an integral part of the Emirati society and has a direct influence on the family.
Badria Al Naqbi, host of the Council in Fujairah, expressed her pride for the opportunity to host one of the Ministry of Interior's Ramadan Councils. She expressed her thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Interior, stressing that such councils tackle issues of interest to the Emirati society, and aim at increasing awareness and fostering cultural and social bonds between Emirati community members.
