Sharjah, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, January 17th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

Children aged 5-12 can look forward to endless reading-inspired fun at Maktaba’s 2015 Winter Camp, held in collaboration with edutainment organisers, The Garage Kids, from 20 – 31 December, 9:30am – 1:30pm. The bookstore and café, which is the latest imprint of  publishing company, Kalimat Group, are providing a number of activities for little ones in a bid to help them develop their social skills, shape their minds through reading, and stimulate them via various physical activities.

Speaking on the camp, Tamer Said, Managing Director of Kalimat Group, said, “With each Kalimat storybook that is narrated to children there is a value to be learnt, a skill to be developed, imagination to be nurtured, and great fun to be had. We arranged this Winter Camp, in collaboration with The Garage Kids, to encourage children to be excited about learning and to engage in character-building team work based on a range of Kalimat group publications.”

A number of exciting activities are on offer that revolve around a collection of fun and educational Kalimat books, including storytelling and reading sessions, painting and illustration, arts & crafts “The Genius Maker” activities (scientific experiments, exploration and discovery, tinkering, and robotics and engineering), theatre classes, physical education, and special activities such as cooking, photography, public speaking and calligraphy.

What makes the event particularly special is its combination of indoor and outdoor classes and games, giving children the opportunity to move around and be active. Additionally, children are awarded for their accomplishments in each activity, and assign missions, mark their completion in a diary book, and receive badges, the opportunity to present projects, and gifts and prizes such as end-of-camp giveaway gifts from  Maktaba , certificates of completion, and branded t-shirts and name tags.

The Winter Camp team are experienced in contemporary methodology and have designed an innovation-drive curriculum inspired by world-class children’s programmes such as The Tinkering Studio, Maker Faire, Kidpreneurs, Agency by Design, and the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University CREATE Lab. Maktaba’s location in Al Qasba is also a plus for parents who can drop their children off at the camp and enjoy a coffee at the literary café or walk around the picturesque square.
