Snickers Hyundai Racing Team clinches 1st & 2nd places in first round of Abu Dhabi SSK Drifting Challenge championship
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Monday, May 16th 2011 [ME NewsWire]
Snickers Hyundai Racing Team drivers Hatim Nito and Ali Assi powered their Hyundai Genesis to first and runner-up places in the six-cylinder unmodified cars category of the SSK Drifting Challenge Championship in Abu Dhabi.
It was their first participation this season.
The championship organized by Autocross Champion Samer Kharda at Yas Marina circuit consists of five rounds.
Hatim Nitto came in fourth in overall standing, recording 40 out of 50 points in a field of more than 20 modified and unmodified cars. Competition was stiff and the Saudi team came in for praise from the referees for organization, preparation and performance. The championship’s professional Arab and European referees include Jordanian Walid Afani, Egyptian Walid Amir and Frenchman Alex Kurbason.
Mohamed Al-Sufyani, founder-manager of Snickers Hyundai Racing Team, said continued support of Team sponsors Hyundai Al-Naghi, Mix FM and Arab Motors “will have the greatest impact on achieving outstanding results this season.”
He said the Team’s second car, a modified Hyundai Genesis 2011, is nearing completion for races. To be driven by Abdullah Yousuf, the car was not ready in time for the Abu Dhabi round.
Congratulating the Team drivers, Al-Sufyani also thanked UAE driver Ahmad Al-Ameri, a winner of the Abu Dhabi round, for his support and the timely facilities extended to the Saudi team.
Snickers Hyundai Racing Team plans to participate in various Gulf and Middle Eastern championships as well as in local tournaments as they become available.
The Team has two Hyundai Genesis cars, one an unmodified 6-cylinder, 3.8-liter 2010 model producing 305 hp, and the other the modified 2011 model being prepared, which is equipped with a turbo charger.
