The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police asserted that no serious traffic accidents occurred on the external roads on Thursday, despite inclement weather conditions in the country. Major Mohsen Al Menhali, Chief of the External Roads Traffic Section, attributed this to the extensive awareness efforts and traffic patrols, coupled with full cooperation of motorists and road users.
Major Al Menhali added that the Traffic and Patrols officers are working round the clock to restore traffic in water-immersed locations and on highways, as more rain is expected due to climate changes.
Major Al Menhali called upon motorists to exercise caution and to use hazard lights when necessary. He also advised them not to exceed speed limits and to leave a safe distance between vehicles while driving, in order to maintain their lives and the lives of other road users.
In parallel, the Al Ain Traffic Section, affiliated to the Traffic and Patrols Directorate General at Abu Dhabi Police distributed awareness brochures and booklets in several locations across the city of Al Ain. The brochures include an overview of weather changes in the UAE, as well as the precautionary measures to be followed by motorists in case of fog, to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section urged motorists and road users to abide by traffic rules, exercise caution while driving during foggy weather, to avoid potential accidents caused by lack of attention and failure to leave sufficient space between vehicles. Moreover, he emphasized the need to allow even more distance between other vehicles band to park the vehicle away from traffic lanes in case of low-visibility due to fog, to avoid traffic accidents.
Chief of Al Ain Traffic Section urged drivers to reduce their speed, abide by speed limits on external and internal roads, and to drive slowly on turns and at intersections because the density of the fog may impede seeing the vehicles approaching from the other direction. He also advised motorists to drive carefully because friction between the road surface and the vehicle’s tires is greatly decreased when roads are wet. Damp roads mean that cars require longer distances to come to a complete stop without skidding.
Concluding, Al Hemairi encouraged motorists to check the weather forecast before travelling or commuting from one city to another, and to choose the right time to travel.
For his part, First Lieutenant Nasser Khalifa Al Shamesi, Acting Public Relations Branch Manager, lauded community members’ cooperation with the awareness guidelines to ensure their safety. “The distribution of the awareness brochures and booklets to motorists in Al Ain city was carried out in cooperation with the Traffic Control Branch,” concluded Al Shamesi.
