Beating the Police Operations team in the FinalsAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, December 21st 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Capital Police Directorate football team was crowned champion of the Director General’s Championship. The team received the cup after defeating the General Directorate of Police Operations’ team 7-6 in the penalty shoot-out following a tied game 3-3. The final match was held at the Police Officers’ Club Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Several teams took part in the championship, organized by the Sports Committee at the Capital Police Directorate. The teams included the General Directorate of Police Operations’ team, the Capital Police Directorate’s team, the Al Madina Police Station team, the Al Shaabiya Police Station team, the Al Khalidiyah Police Station team, the Western Region Police Directorate; in addition to the Strategic Planning Section, and EMAS Company.
Player Yehya Marhoun from the Western Region Police Directorate’s Football Team won the Best Player Award in the Championship, and player Walid Al Kathiri from the General Directorate for Police Operations won the Best Goalkeeper Award. The Al Madina Police Station team was awarded the Ideal Team Award.
The final match was attended by Brigadier Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate, along with Colonel Sultan Al Zaabi, Acting Director of the Director General of Police Operations’ office, a number of senior officers, members of the Sports Committee at the Capital Police Directorate, and members of the championship’s organizing committee.
“The championship reflects the prestigious status of the sports activities at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. Both teams exhibited a high level of performance and deserved their place in the final match,” said Al Sharifi. He added that the championship embodies the police leadership’s vision to qualify physically fit police members and encourage fair competition in all sports fields. Al Sharifi also indicated that the championship achieved its key goal, to ensure interaction between staff members and enhance their self-esteem.
Brigadier Maktoum Al Sharifi handed over the championship’s cup and Gold Medals to the Capital Police Directorate team. The General Directorate of Police Operations’ team received the Silver Medals for ranking second in the championship. He also recognized the Best Player, Best Goalkeeper and Ideal Team winners.
