Headed by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Federal Demographic Structure Council (FDSC) held, on Wednesday, its ninth periodic meeting in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was attended by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labor, and Deputy Director of the Federal Demographics Council; Sultan Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy; Dr. Anwar Gargash, State Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs; and Rashid Salim Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Council.
The Council discussed developments pertaining to the implementation of the demographic structure federal strategy approved by the Council of Ministers. For this end, the participants reviewed the ongoing coordination efforts with federal and local government entities to follow-up on the progress and completion of joint projects and programs. The Council also stressed the importance of concerted efforts to achieve the desired goals, in line with the State's vision 2021.
During the meeting, the council members examined a number of reports and studies, and adopted the appropriate recommendations. They also called for following-up on the implementation process with the concerned entities.
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the council’s commitment to implement the directives of his Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Head of the State; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai. “These directives call for the empowerment of citizens, being the main pillars of the overall sustainable development,” indicated His Highness.
His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan also emphasized the need to develop comprehensive and realistic solutions, commensurate with the development plans and the State’s strategic objective to build a knowledge-based economy, led by qualified and knowledgeable UAE nationals. His Highness stressed the need for the proposed policies to encourage the private sector to assume its societal responsibility, and support the State in its plans to empower citizens. “Empowering citizens and building a knowledge-based economy that adopts the best practices, advanced technologies and knowledge, will ultimately reduce the UAE’s reliance on foreign unskilled labor. It will also boost the country’s competitiveness and create opportunities for the qualitative Emiratisation process,” indicated His Highness.
For their part, the Ministers, members of the Council commended the efforts of the councils’ General Secretariat’s work team, to carry out comprehensive analysis and submit integrated recommendations. They also praised the team’s coordination with the various federal and local authorities to achieve the FDSC’s strategic goals.
Attending the meeting were Humaid Al Dir’e, Assistant Secretary General of Strategy and Communication at the Council; Dr. Wadha Al Nuaimi, Assistant Secretary General of the Statistics Sector at the Council; and Dr. Saeed Abdullah, Acting Secretary General of FDSC for Policies.
