Civil Defense Wins Excellence Shield at MoI Sports Activities

Under the Patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and under the slogan “Happiest People”, Major General Abdul Aziz Maktoum Al Shareefi, Director General of Protective Security in the Ministry of Interior, attended the honoring ceremony of the winning teams and participants at the 7th Sports Activities, organized by Police Sports Federation for staff members of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) sectors and departments in Abu Dhabi. During the ceremony, which was held at the Lectures Hall at the ministry, the General Directorate of Civil Defense was awarded the Sports Excellence Shield.
Major General Al Shareefi delivered a speech, by which he extended the greetings and congratulations of the leaders to all participants who took part in the sports activities. He said: “This recognition comes under the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and H.E Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior. It reflects the Ministry of Interior’s strategy, which aims to encourage top achievers and distinguished staff members towards achieving more success across all police fields. This recognition also reflects the firm belief of the police leadership in the important role of sports in shaping the comprehensive police characteristics, instilling self-confidence and the concept of honest competition among MoI’s staff members, and in strengthening cooperation, harmony, love and team work.”
Major General Al Shareefi added: “As Emirati nationals, you are blessed with the opportunity of having a positive and optimistic outlook on the future. Such a feeling does not come from vain and does not exclude anyone. It is rather an overall general feeling experienced by all in our country, thanks to the attention and support of our higher leadership.”
Al Shareefi and the attendees watched a documentary film that sheds light on the various activities and events that were organized by the Police Sports Federation across all police GHQs. The documentary also highlighted the role of the federation on local, GCC, Arab and International levels.
Colonel Abdul Malik Jani, Head of Police Sports Federation Department, delivered a speech by which he extended his gratitude and appreciation to H.E Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior and H.E Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior for Resources and Support Services, for their significant support of these activities and their continuous follow-up. He also praised their keenness to overcome all obstacles that faced the federation while organizing the activities, which ensured the success of the event.
Colonel Jani also commended the support of the police leadership of the sports movement in the country in general, and at the Ministry of Interior in particular. He also lauded the cooperation among different sectors, as well as their positive participation in the activities, which had a significant impact on achieving the goals and aspirations of the Police Sports Federation.
Colonel Jani said: “Organizing these activities for the seventh consecutive year personifies the police leadership’s directives on the need to dedicate attention to promoting police sports. It also reflects the strategy of the ministry to encourage its staff members to practice sports, as it helps to maintain police officers’ physical, mental and psychological health, and prepares them properly to perform their duties efficiently. It also fosters and supports social and brotherly ties among the ministry’s staff members.”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Major General Al Shareefi, accompanied by Colonel Abdul Malik Jani, honored the participating sectors, as well as the entities that hosted the sports competition and helped bring success to the activities.
Major General Al Shareefi also handed the trophies and memorial presents to the top three teams and the winners of all sports and cultural activities.
Major General Al Shareefi also handed the 2013-2014 Excellence Shield to Brigadier Saleh Al Matroushi, Director General of the Civil Defense in Ajman, in recognition of the directorate’s triumph in achieving first place with 368 points. The General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s sector came in second place, followed by the Resources and Support Services sector, in third place.
Colonel Abdul Malik Jani also presented a commemorative gift to Major General Al Shareefi.
The ceremony was attended by Brigadier Saeed Salim Al Henki, Director General of Finance and Support Services; Brigadier Mohammed Ghadir Al Ketbi, Deputy Director General of the Federal Criminal Police; Brigadier Ahmed Abdullah Al Hajri, Director of the Federal Police School; Brigadier Saleh Al Matroushi; directors general; and a big number of officers at the Ministry of Interior.
The MoI Sports Activities included 21 different sports and cultural activities, such as seven-a-side football; beach volleyball; tug of war; snooker; pistol shooting- men; pistol shooting- women; pistol shooting- senior officers; pistol shooting- officers; swimming; table tennis; bowling; running; race-walking; football videogame; in addition to men and women cultural competitions and chess. A big number of officers, non-commissioned officers, individuals, civilians and workers, including women employees from the Ministry of Interior and its different departments took part in the activities.
