RICS Unveils New Report Calling for Change in Land and Built Environment Sectors Globally

LONDON & LOS ANGELES. - Saturday, April 25th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)--The report, entitled “Our Changing World: Let’s be ready” examines how global social and economic changes will require new skills, business models and responses to developing technologies over the next 15 years to 2030. It was launched in Los Angeles; a region at the forefront of innovation, design and technological change. Major drivers and trends were debated by industry leaders today at the RICS industry Summit including Altus Group CEO Robert Courteau and CEO of Capright, Jay Marling, after its launch with director of USC Lusk Center for Real Estate, Richard Green.

Significant shifts in demographics, levels of urbanisation and economic power will impact on how and where we live. RICS have identified six areas requiring our sector’s attention. These include:

#1: Helping our sector win the war for talent

#2: Having ethics at the heart of everything we do

#3: Creating successful and sustainable future cities

#4: Embracing technology and big data

#5: Helping the surveying profession take new opportunities

#6: Developing strong leadership

“RICS, representing so many disciplines, can play an important role as a catalyst to bring people together, and support businesses in the land and built environment develop to remain relevant in the future. It’s about collaboration – this is an open invitation for firms, organisations and professionals to help us ensure our sector is fit for future generations.” [RICS CEO, Sean Tompkins]

“The Futures Project allows us to focus our energies on a path to 2030 that is attuned to building the necessary skills, developing technologies and remedial actions needed to respond to a modern and changing world. It’s about ensuring we attract and retain the best talent.” [RICS Global President, Louise Brooke-Smith]

“The thing that has struck me during this work is the fast pace of change that we are seeing. With BIM, big data, and new technology like the Internet of Things and 3D printing, standing still is not an option. Our sector will need to change to embrace roles and new skills not yet imagined today.” [RICS Director of Strategy, Dan Cook]
