Trusted Labs Achieves the First Security EAL7 Certificate for Gemalto Smart Card Embedded Software

VERSAILLES, France - Wednesday, May 15th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Trusted Labs, a leading expert in security consulting and evaluation services today announced that it has provided know-how, formal assurances and Common Criteria expertise to complete the first EAL7 certification – the utmost level of security – for embedded software on a smart card.

This evaluation provides Gemalto’s Sealys ID Motion multi-issuer eID secure document with mathematically proven assurances on its Virtual Machine in charge of the secure isolation between the hosted applications.

Trusted Labs once again accomplishes a successful high-level evaluation, confirming EAL7’s applicability on an industry scale. This project also demonstrates the benefits of fulfilling high-level security requirements on development and testing – with the product and specifications being reinforced - in order to increase trust in product security.

The French Certification Body ANSSI (1) issued the Common Criteria EAL7 certificate on March 29th, 2013, after a successful evaluation by the French ITSEF Thales (TCS-CNES).

“With fifteen years’ expertise in Formal Methods and Common Criteria, Trusted Labs confirmed last year that EAL7 is achievable on smart card hardware and now on smart card embedded software”, Claire Loiseaux, President of Trusted Labs, said. “This technology is now accessible to any secure element or any connected device carrying or utilizing sensitive data.”

“This certification represents another major step forward in securing trust in eGovernment services” commented Youzec Kurp, Vice-President of Government Programs at Gemalto. “It sets a new standard in the market, and is a clear illustration of our commitment to providing ever more secure solutions for governments and citizens alike.”
